What year and model Dodge's have the full floating Dana 44 axles front and rear or either in front or only in back?

Uh, none of them ever had a FF 44 rear. ALL rear 44's are semifloat unless they've got a Warn FF kit (which doesn't exist for a Dodge). I don't know if or when Dodge EVER used a 44 rear, but if so it wasn't for long. Most rears are the Chysler 9-1/4 (also semifloat). ALL fronts are full-floaters.

NO FF 44 REARS (in Dodges).

ALL FF 44 FRONTS (unless it's a 60 or 70).

I can't recall for sure but I want to say 30. I went back to dig up that old thread where Ramstein had posted pics, but they're gone now.

edit: Hey, don't you have one you've been into lately? Or did it come welded?

your supposed to disassemble those before you weld them?!:flipoff2: i brake cleaned the center section and went to town with it. then i hosed it out again with brake clean right after i welded it to get all the boogers out. :D

The Tractech application table for Detroit lockers gives the 8-3/4 as having 1.20" diameter 30-spline shafts, the 9-1/4 as having 1.32" dia. 31-spline shafts, and the 8-1/4 as 1.17" and 27 spline from 76-96, and 1.21" and 29 spline from '97-up.

Nope. Early Jeeps (IIRC till ~71) had FF 44s.

What about the ~'75-~'79 and the '94+ Dodges?

Yeah, you're right - I'd forgotten about the old Jeeps; they did have a FF rear 44. I think that I've seen something like that under a new Rover, too (but could be mistaken here). Maybe Old Scout can straighten that one out. Never heard of any such thing in a Dodge though, and that was the original question.

The '75-79 and the newer Dodge front 44's are definitely full-floaters; the inner bearing race presses onto the hub, the outer bearing race is located on the shoulder in the knuckle, and the shaft splines into the hub. Bearing does not run on shaft; shaft bears no weight (besides its own) and only transmits torque. If you imagine a conventional FF rear end with a double-splined shaft and a splined flange, that's what you've got on those axles; just with a bolt-on bearing retainer and a knuckle assembly.

Has anyone done a disk brake kit,or switch over on a 9 1/4 ?

I have afriend that is dying to have rear disks on his ram.

I anyone has any ideas i be willing to listen, dodges arent my fortay ,but if you can think of some parts that would work like doing a dana 60 or a 14 bolt using using chevy rotors and cad calipers i will be much appreciative.

Got be someone out there that has done a upgrade on one of these.

:D

thanks

Here are 2 links that I ~know~ of... I really only know about them from hearsay - a few of the guys from the Durango Owners Club have used them, and had good reviews. The Durango has a slightly narrowed version of the 9-1/4" shared with the Ram.

Also, the 9.25" is 1.32" at the splines, then tapers bigger about 3-5" in.. i woudl say to about 1.5". this is why ramstein has only broken dana 60 shafts, and never a 9.25" shaft.

i plan to test the durability of the 9-1/4 shafts ;)
i'm also doing discs in the rear to keep the axles in when they do break :D
