moveaside 08-19-2002, 06:25 PM I heard Bassie was closed due to an ATV guy changing his oil in the river. The owners saw this and it was the last straw. True?

 I would kick the $hit out of someone doing that and pump that oil up his arss!!!
Belly Dragger 08-21-2002, 05:08 PM The part that still amazes me is that people in OUR community still don't get it.
IMAGE IS EVERYTHING
We are under the microscope and everything we do is scrutinized to the max. Wether it's driving up a tree, making your own personal trail or drinking and driving, it all makes us look bad.
If some moron was changing their oil into a stream (and I don't care if it's downstream of an oil refinery) That is just plain stupid.

I give up arguing on this bb with some of these guys.Well after we can't do anything in CA then they focus on TN, then MAYBE they will get it. Unfortunately it will be too late.

See you "get it", it's the same all over, the guys that own shotguns don't give a shit if they take away handguns, there turn is next........so they should care!
YellowSub1962 08-25-2002, 11:20 PM Image is everything like BD said..... some people jus can't grasp it....this quote sometimes helps, but some people are beyond help- though we must try anyway :)
“First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.” -- Martin Niemoeller

Belly Dragger 08-26-2002, 04:39 PM Sub I stole the quote for my sig. It's to too true.

Yep it does blame 4x's. Is it wrong?? Nope. 4x's going off trail have done the damage. Here's a cut-n-paste from another bassi thread:
I must say I feel this closure is a TOTAL CROCK OF SHIT. Not because it didn't need to be closed- it didn't, it needed alot of work and the idiots to be supervised. I feel it is a crock because Bassi falls and surrounding areas is now a VERY popular hangout for very disrespectful dirt bikers and ATV'ers from what I have seen. There seems to be NO enforcement of the closure. It seems to me to be a goddamn safe haven for them. I have been there a few times now since the closure and every time there has been 5 and 6 trailers and more trucks plugging up the parking area and riding around like flies on shit. Roosting up the hill sides- right past the signs declaring "NO ohv or motorized vehicles". I have tried to take my daughter for a walk there and fear for her safety since none of the riders even slowed down when passing us on the (hiking) trail.
Just my opinion and feelings.
:flipoff: irresponsible stupid MF :flipoff:
NOODLES 09-05-2002, 10:48 AM I did not read anything on that notice that had to do with 4x4's or ohv. as far as we know it could be a geometro driving off road. It states MOTORIZED VEHICLES and not any type in particular.

NOODLES 09-05-2002, 06:53 PM our common sence. It is a good thing they didn't specifie for greeny weenie reasons. know what I mean vern.
GaryGreco 09-06-2002, 11:14 AM People don't give ashit about signs, not only do they not read them or respect they want to interept them to be for someone else.
I ride in Asuza canyon sometimes, and they have a sign that says in english and spanish "
STAY OUT OF THE LAKE WATER AND DO NOT RIDE DOWN THE STREAM CROSS AT RIGHT ANGLES AT DESIGNATED CROSSINGS"
I stood there one sunday with some eco nazis behind in another truck that were brought down to be shown what goes on there and how people pretty much obey the rules , and right in front of us 20-30 people were driving down the stream to the lake and right past another sign . They took notes shookl their heads and left me another guy how spend countless hours going to meetings litening to babble about sucker fish and ppm of oil polution in the lake trying to talk to these morons. They drive up kids in the back no seat belts on in an open chevy blazer bouncing like crazy up and down barely hanging on,no roll bar and go what sign ,they said "Oh i thought they meant up there by entrance ".
You see ,in reality its education, most don't get a good one about the big picture when it comes to these issues. Mabe thier parents never went off road or camping,or maybe in "their days" they could do whatever they wanted so i'm going to do the same.
The other issue is fines, the ranger was watching this and never gave anyone a ticket. I you don't enforce the rules ,they will just keep ingoring you. Fact
They have to do that every where, write tickets ,fine em make them moving violations and then see how serious they get.
You want people to obey the signs then get a back bone and enforce it!!!!!!!!!
Rules are rules for reasons ,we make the rules we enforce them ,it's simple, stop listening to these bleeding hearts crying "I didn't know ,i couldn't see the sign, i dont speak or read english"
Make them do community service in the area the violated and pay a fine and see how fast it stops.
My god changing oil n a stream and he sat there and watched it happen instead of asking the guy "moron" to move it over to dry land,or calling the ranger service for help if he could is just not good enough, speak up people !

The people that drive by signs DO NOT CARE what the sign says.

LIE LIE LIE they knew exactly what they were doing.

Education....Upbringing......Teach your kids to respect the enviroment.

True, enforcement is the key. Ever stop to think of the phrase "head on a pike" and what that really means. They are doing that on Rubicon now.
Changing oil in a stream?? WTF is this real? It seems only rumor so far and maybe there is a different truth to this story. If it is true I would like to put HIS head on a pike.
