Ok, So I picked up this 4x4 XLT extended cab short bed for $1500 cause the P.O. thought it needed a trans. I've been driving it for 2 weeks and seems ok with city driving, I want to do a test tow this weekend and see how bad it slips...

It is a 460 gasser, C6 trans (I verified it)

I am going back and forth on what tranny to swap in or to rebuild the one I have: 5 speed swap ($1500) myself OR rebuild the C6 ($1400) have a shop do it to get the warranty :( ...or pull the trans myself, and rebuild it myself (which I don't have the time and space for right now) ($600)

I'll be doing long hauls with my crawler on the trailer..
What do you guys think?

uhhhhh, did someone bubba the truck before you got it??? last year ford put the C-6 in anything was 92 AFAIK... I've never seen one past 91... should have an E4od...

Yes its a factory C6, it has NO o/d button. I think someone ordered it from the factory like that...

Anyone know if the ECU is different on the 5spd trucks???? I assume it is not

Hell I got a 60 front from him for $200 about 2 years ago. Sold it for $800 the next day. (he doesn't get those often)

The C6 was a delete option through at least 96, if memory serves it was dropped at the end of the 96 MY. Is the transmission code K on the door tag?
As for the ECU, being the C6 is non electronic, while it may not be exactly the same as one for a 5 speed truck, it's not like it's going to be looking for a transmission, so, it would be fine with a 5 speed swap.
