Hi folks,

I am considering embarking on a custom axle project. My problem is that there are very few people here (Australia) who do those sort of mods and so I have to learn the hard way usually.

Anyway the vehicle is a 97 TJ and I am looking at upgrading the front and rear axles. D60 for the rear and HD D44 or D60 for the front eventually. (You think finding a front D60 is hard in the US ;-) )

Anyway I have a line on a late model J20 Jeep rear Dana 60 for a good price. My question is has anyone fitted disc brakes and kept the FF and 8 lug stud pattern? How did you handle the hand-brake issue.

Also is there any advantage on getting a D60 from the rear of an F250-350 say. They are the same stud pattern and I am assuming are pretty much the same diff with the exception of the width.

I have searched the forums and have not been able to find an answer to this question.

you'll need some 3/4ton 8 lug front rotors and a backing plate. don't recall what to get the plate from. other then calipers that should be it. my 60 rear is FF w/the 8 lug rotors.

You use brackets from TSM, 73-87 3/4 ton chevy 4wd rotors, stock 1/2 ton pr 3/4 ton chevy 4wd calipers (1/2 ton and 3/4 are the same) for no e-brake and 76-79 eldorado calipers if you want an e brake. I have a 14 bolt with TSM brackets, F250 rotors, and caddy calipers. I never hooked the e brake up to the caddy calipers, so I'm going to use some 10 bolt front calipers I have (I like them better) and put the e-brake on the transfer case

I used some d44 8 lug rotors and some 1/2 ton calipers and brackets.

Thanks for your help man. Did you have to machine the jub to get the 8 lug rotor to go over it?

Would those backing plates be the same as on an F250 Front D44?

Any pics of the other side would be greatly appreciated.

No. The Ford calipers mount using wedges. You will be using bolt on calipers.

this mod seems like it could be about the same cost as new drum stuff!

What about on a semifloater 60?

how about master cylinder flow issues?

also about wheel clearence?
would the 15inch 2.5 back solution work here to?
