: To Rhino or not to Rhino ...
Jaffer 08-19-2002, 07:02 AM That is the question!
I've an appointment to Rhino Line the bed of my new Duramax but am getting cold feet after seeing several rigs with pukey, washed out grey Rhino jobs.
Does the new stuff have better UV protection properties?
Or do you have to constantly protect it from going bad?
Now I'm feeling that the only way I want the Rhino is if I add a covering or shell on the back to protect and keep it looking nice.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
I have another day to back out ...
offroadr35 08-19-2002, 11:30 AM i say do it. if i had the money i'd do mine. i have the entire interior of my bronco rhino lined and it has held up great. if it ever does start lookin crappy just get it resprayed...it's gonna look good for at least a few years.

Jaffer - Whats the alternative? Bedliner? That'll turn pukey looking too in no time if exposed to UV... I'd probably still go with rhino over bedliner if $$$ wasn't a factor.
In my opinion a scratched up, rusty bed looks a helluva lot worse than my slightly chalky, Rhino lined bed. If I would do the UV protection like they recommend every couple of years it wouldn't look chalky at all, but I don't. A good scrubbing with some Castrol Super clean and a stiff brush makes it look much better anyhow.

I know, that's the dilemma.
I've also seen all the srapped up paint, ripped mats and curled up liners ... :(
I guess it's about choosing the lessor of evils. It's just that the Rhino is so ... perminant.
Devil Dog 08-20-2002, 09:01 AM i say leave it as is... let it get all scratched up and what not.. then right before you get rid of it.. rhino line it.. .. huh? huh? :D
Hypoid Drive 08-20-2002, 09:22 AM I have two friends that have rhino and the mess is pulling up in sheets where they did not do a very good job sanding

i have seen the same thing...a friend of mine(TexasTeaDrinker) has a 96 F250 with the bed rhino lined. he hauled around some motors in the back which has caused the rhino lining to be scratched up. Since then we have noticed that sheets o the lining are coming up....i think it is cause oil was able to get under it, but that still doesnt excuse it.
however, my step mom has the bed of her 97 Chevy 1500 rhino lined and it still looks really good....it has never been treated for the UV rays either....
I saw a Duramax with a matching green spray in liner that looked SWEET!
My current SuperDuty had a professional spray in liner, and I LOVE IT.
Hillbilly 08-21-2002, 06:47 PM If you are so worried about it fading, just have it sprayed when you get ready to sell it:D That's what all the dealers do with used trucks
chevota01 08-22-2002, 08:00 PM Prep, prep and nore prep are the key to getting the Rhino liner to adhere. Most shops skimp on the sanding. If all surfaces are not roughed up, peeling is a possibility. It took the shop that did one of my past trucks 4 hours to prep it and less than 1 hour to shoot it. I had all sorts of crap, including oil, tranny fluid, gasoline spill and it never peeled. Find a dealer that's willing to work for their money!
Exactly chevota! Mine has been on for five years and I've hauled rock, bricks, engines, trannies, diffs, etc. etc. ..... Other than a little graying it still is in great shape. I did peel a chunk up with a gooseneck hitch that wasn't high enough when I backed under it. The liner around it stayed intact for about a year when I finally took it back to the dealer to touch up that spot.
