Heck, I'd like to figure out a good rule of thumb for water to dirt mix in a pit.

I guess if you calculated the volume of your excavator bucket, you would know how many buckets of dirt to put in for each 1000 gallons of water added to the pit.

How about pit depth and bottom contours? Do you guys start shallow with a smooth bottom? Put some small holes in to start with? Just dig a big ol' hole and let the best truck win?

We have trouble with this almost every year. We change operators almost every year (hey, can't complain, they are volunteers!) and each new one has to figure out a mixing technique and water/dirt mix that works for them. Sometimes it takes a couple of years...

SO, suggestions?

Thanks,
Blair
