That is actually a clevis, No? After seeing some of the vids from florida, looking at the size of the straps they use, & how hard they yank on each other getting them out, a clevis that big may come in handy while hooking up the large straps, or multiple straps,
Not to mention, I bet that clevis has a load rating of 100,000+ lbs. maybe a little big, but convenient, & adaquate.

Halogrinder
01-10-2009, 12:48 PM
not needed. still. D-ring as slang, yes "proper" terminology would be a clevis....

a 1'' clevis is rated to 25,000 working load... not including ultimate load. more than 99% of most trucks wont need that.

I have here in front of me a WLL 1" clevis, rated at 10 ton, 20,000 lbs, different manufactures ratings are known to very, so I'm sure your numbers are within reason, & I agree, more than enough to tug that rig out of the mud, However with the large snach straps they are using one strap would be the limit for a 1" clevis, (as far as physically fitting goes)

I do agree the large clevis looks a little silly, if it were mine I would have a 1" clevis in a vertical position, if more than one strap is needed, drag the big boy out & hook to the 1", then there is plenty of room to attach as many straps as would be needed to jerk your junk in half :D

I'll keep my semi huge clevis 1 1/2" or go up to a huge one like whats on that jeep after yesterday. you dont realize the muck we get into and have to use tug boat rope to pull trucks out it was only a explorer on 40's this time but his 1 inch clevis pin broke and luckly hit my bumper and tailgate not me see passengers side clevis outline. the tug boat rope hit the drivers side and dented that side. glass flew fast enough to put 8 lil 1/4" cracks in my windsheild. luckily again I ducted and got the steering wheel and only alil glass. so pick on the huge clevis if ya want I want a few of them today :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2: LOL

a 1'' clevis is rated to 25,000 working load... not including ultimate load. more than 99% of most trucks wont need that.

our lil truck must be in the 1% range of the trucks then :bounce2:

i was in the same "holy cow" area, but retardedly came in front of big....:flipoff2:

:D holly cow that LOL I'll take retarded today :flipoff2::flipoff2::D

so a 30,000 lb strap like i use isnt good enough? it fits in a receiver hitch and you musta had a bad clevis, cause a classIII hitch is only good to 10,000 lbs if im understanding correctly. so when does your frame/bolts/fabbing come into play with this now?

tug boat rope - is whole other story and those straps do break (thats why my 30k is holding my chain fall now with 2 knots in it)

my Class IV hitch and frame are reinforced bolted and welded and still just fine so my fab skills must be pretty good its held for over a year now pulling on it all the time. the clevis was prob weak or something IDK but if you where me would you take chances ????? Im grateful to god Im typing this today.

MAN!!!! I sure do miss Florida mud boggs! Those were the days! "Make it, break it, or take it away on a wrecker"! What fun! I used to live in N.E. Florida and reguarly visited Hilliard Mud Boggs aqnd Picketville Rd.- What fun! The Smoky Mountains suck for mud bogging! All there is up here is Tellico and a few other trail rides...lol. Truthfully- I DO miss the Florida BIG TRUCK MUD BOGGS! They were alot of fun! HUGE trucks- Huge tires and HUGE horse power!

cause that stupid D-ring is retarded. those belong on cranes, not on vehicles...... get a proper sized D-ring. i figgures it has a crank hook on the winch, right? QUOTE]

Ya'll will love my towpoints front and rear on my jeep then...

i have a bunch of these that i got from fedex. They bend these things up all the time trying to lift big stuff straight up with the hook pinned underneath the object, twisting the eyelet. Then they discard them in a pile for me to come snag a few!

hope that guys is paying for the repairs to your rig that is messed up.

Thats the thing the "hardcore" rock guys dont understand. The mud guys have a whole different outlook on how things go. It's a much more relaxed group.

This is maybe pretty true? But it is on a 3500lbs jeep? I think that is where the humor is?:D I have a truck wieghs in about 8000lbs and I dont even have one that big. Haha his is bigger then mine? SHIT I be back gots2 go to the wrecker store.

i agree with ky scrambled on this one ... i'm not a huge fan of mud, and none of my wheeling buddies are either ... but i've been shipping parts to a buddys house while i'm out of town to store for me, he's drove a few hundred miles out of his way several times to help me get a trailer, will be purchasing and installing a GN hitch on my tow rig, will be helping me rebuild my jeep to get it on the trail ... not just mud guys have good friends like that ....

Really? Look at the ration of sghit people get on here from day to day for stupid stuff.

On a mud rig if it's not dangerous, it's laughable.

Me at Shiloh Ridge. I didnt have any inner fenders and ended up completely fucking up the 6.2 diesel that was in the truck. It ran like shit to start with and I choked out the air filter with mud, after that it wouldnt start any more. Havent hit the pits since then but I will soon be tubing out my front end and building some inner fenders, then I will return to dominate!
