which is better?

plow through trying to get traction from the bottom

or

skate across the top with lots of momentum

Always ........ ALWAYS, the answer is momentum

Depends on what your setup is.

I've seen momentum take a hyundai scoupe across a hole like skipping a rock, and I've seen V tread buggies drive across whatever they want at an idle.

Now go find what vehicle you are wondering about and fit it somewhere inbetween

Momentum is definitely your friend, but skating across the top only works temporarily unless you have gobs & gobs of horsepower. Most of the competition guys in the lower classes run VERY narrow tires in deep mud.

depends on what you like,

a fat semi agressive tire with high rpm

skinny agressive tire with low rpm and more control.

i had the most fun with just some bfg at's and tach'd out and sideways.

id never give up my boggers but they will stall my bbc out in second gear.

depends on the type of bottom.

Hard bottom with watery mud - plow
Thick bottomless shit - skate

the guys running tractors always run out of bottom some time or another and just completely bury them, so I would say try to sk8 with momentum

The way I see it is anywhere you can skim across at an idle has gotta be better that a wide open throttle assult. because at an idle you rarely get buried and can always back up and goose'er if ya have to.

Yeah well I know my limits and if I think i'm going to get stuck or break my rig for now reason then I will back out of it. I would rather the humiliation of being towed out over the humiliation of being towed home any day

Shallow pit with bottom -skinny's

Deep pit no bottom-the wider the better.

And Alway's leave the line hard before you hit the deep stuff, I like 3800 On the trans brake and let it eat:)

I run V-treads, so I mainly try to find the bottom.

I do have to admit that I was excited that they were making a mud section, because you need somewhere for someone to tell you you are a class A retard................
agreed, 'cept for the excited part

in all fairness, I took some liberties with his original quote.

here's what his original quote said

I run V-treads, so I mainly try to find the bottom.

I do have to admit that I was excited that they were making a mud section, but this Thread is pathetic. If you need someone to tell you how to go through a mud-hole, then you you are a class A retard................

Its actually quite simple. I replied with a comment but gave a second thought to and found it quite rude. I then deleted it, but it was too late. So you can take it how you want...................

You've been here since '06 and you're worried about being rude?

I usually take the devil be damned route and just give 'er all the way through. If I make it, I put on a good show. If not, hey, we have recovery gear and aren't afraid to use it.

Gotta love rooster tails.

Depending on where you're at. If you're in the 'swamps' the "plowing" method is probably better. If you've got a fast track truck, the "skate" method will do better. It really all depends though, on the truck you're looking at and the mud hole itself.

Some of those trucks that they've got in Florida are gettin' down though and they'll "get on top" so to speak. Most of them have 60inch tires or bigger. When the racers are only running 44's at biggest.
