I have an 01 2500 Cummins 4x4 and I need tires desperately. I know I can get 35's with a leveler kit, but what is the largest 16 inch rim tire I can fit WITHOUT rubbing on a stock setup? I currently have 275 75 16r's and they are fawkin tiny on my truck. Sorry for a newbie ??? but I dont know the metric sizes very well

Depends on what wheels you have, and how high the truck sits. 255/85R16s (33 x 10) and 285/75R16s (33 x 11.25) fit all of them fine (I run 255s, great in snow/rain, but sux in sand). My buddy ran 315/75R16s 35 x 12.50) on his stock '01, on the factory alum. 16 x 8 wheels. The only rubbed a bit on the control arms at full lock, however his truck sat higher that mine did stock, he's got the plow package and the camper package. A 2" coil spacer is cheap and fill fit the 315s OK. (try Jack It Up for good, cheap spacers.)

edit: typo (285, not 385)

I have the stock 16x8's. My truck is pretty tall. Here it is with the 275x75's on it. I have the camper package as well! I might just do the 315's and let them rub till I get the spacers, but money is TIGHT right now ;) What about a 295 or 305? Would those work ya think?

Should work, but I haven't seen them in a 75 series, only a 70. My bud w/the 315s just recently added the spacer, he was able to keep his stock shocks, the only thing he added was the spacer. I'd price 'em out if I were you, I forget how much they are, but they're not bad. I run a 2 1/2", however the truck sits level and sags with anything more that a couple hundred pounds in the bed; I want to lift the back ~1". I think the OE wheels will help prevent rubbing, IIRC they have a tad more backspacing than standard aftermarked 8's. My 255s stick out in the front, and are flush in the rear.

I run 19.5 rickson wheels on my 98 2500 4x4 the tires really fill the fenders and carry much more wt then any other tires. I believe they are 245/70 r 19.5

Kieth, I will try and get some photos,
I am running Toyo tires Similiar tread to the xzts. It handles great with a heay load in it no more sway. The tires do have a harsher ride.

From what I have read on www.turbodieselregister.com the biggest tires you can run on the stock rims with out any rubbing are 295-76-16's. If you put a leveling kit on (spacers or new coils - Skyjacker D25's are a good choice) then you can get to 315's. I know guys that run 305's and have a bit of rubbing but just live with it. I am shopping for new tires and think I will go with 295's, but I want to do a gearing change from 3.54 to 4.10 first because the RPM's will be way to low for my diesel with out the change. You also have to worry about the speedo being off and this effects the antilock breaks. Skyjacker and Abbott both sell a little box that can be wired into the truck to correct the error.

I run BFG AT 295/75 - 16 on my 01 Dodge diesel with stock rims. They are damm close to rubbing the front fender under flex. They do rub the control arms at full steering stop.

No complaints after 45000 miles. I'm still not at the warning point, but very close.
