It's the trucks that sit 25 feet in the air that I don't get.

they can go in the real deep stuff mine would sink in and maybe never come out alot of them also have big expensive motors and up that high its alot easier to keep the mud out of them

needs a couple more inches of lift IMO.

I understand WHY they put them up that high, but the only holes that deep have gotta be man-made.
and I dont see the point of mudding just for mudding. If it's on the trail I want to take, ok, but drive to a mud hole? no.

.

It only really needs about 2" more and a higher front spring rate.
It works awesome as is, and it eats mud pretty good. I just trail run though and don't go "looking" for mud.:D

Why do people climb rocks with their rigs?

Same answer for both events.. It's the challenge to see if you can make it through the obsticle.

Thanks Tyler C! I swear it's just a steel headed stock stroke 350. The heads have been ported and flowed, its .030 over with around 12.5:1 compression with a decent roller cam and victor Jr. intake and a NOS cheater system. It's not a wild motor at all, but it's always ran way better than it should. Oh-it's hooked to a powerglide then a 208 transfer case.

I know Im gonna get flamed for this one but here goes. This isnt mine yet, but may be very soon. Its been set up for sand drags, 4.11 gears and spools front and rear, healthy 460. Yes its the one on ebay right now. Id be running it on speed track mud races if I bought it, and on the street. Id also add a nastier cam, higher stall tq conv., 4 paddles, and about a 200 shot of spray for the mud races.

Oh-it's hooked to a powerglide then a 208 transfer case.
!

Mind if I get a bit more info on this combination? How did you do the adapter from the shorty (I presume) Powerglide to the 208?

Yeah it is the green one. A guy names Scott built it and I finished it.

Stevo,
I actually am not using a shorty glide-it's just a regular one that I took out of the drag car and put into the truck to try it out one weekend so I rigged up an adapter just for one weekend and you know how that goes-it's been the same way for about 5 years! lol! I've changed the rigged up crossmembers and other things, but the yokes and u-joint have remained the same. It doesn't look very strong at all, but it's held up to hundreds upon hundreds of runs behind a decent small block of about 500 horses but then with 250 horses of nitrous added to it. On a good hooking track with paddles it will pull the front tires and carry them for a bit so it's handling the power and torque well and not given out yet. I've been building a new truck for a while now so I've not been too much on updating or improving the old truck, but as long as the old junk holds together I'll leave it alone.
It's just two yokes out of th350's that are connected together by one u-joint, then the output shaft out of another th350 that is cut off and slid into the imput splines of the 208 transfer case and sticking out enough for the yoke to slide onto it. Make sense? You have to make sure to line the tranny and the transfer case up pretty well as this set-up won't allow for any misalignment of the two, but it's been forgiving thus far. The tailhousings of powerglides are pretty easily cracked when put into a bind.

Keep in mind this pic is from years ago while initially rigged up just to try it-be nice!:D

I hope this helps.

There was a post about that truck in another thread on here, not sure which one though. There is more info over on chucks trucks I believe, and a few people on here should be able to give you more details. I think that the engine puts out around 1800-2000 hp. Or at least it did. Its been dormant for about a year now.

Thats the problem with a (super) high hp engine... they dont stay together very long. I bet it was fun when it ran, though.

This one's my son's truck: 75 dodge ramcharger, balanced and blueprinted 360, .030 over, flat top pistons, the heads are milled, and we had chevy 2.02/1.60 ss valves installed. Adjustable valvetrain and a comp cam custom ground solid cam. Hooker headers, holley 660 offroad avenger and an edelbrock intake.
The transmission is basically stock with a b&m holeshot converter controlled by a quarter stick shifter. The transfer case is a later model 241 for lower gearing. Front diff is a chevy 10 bolt, 4.56 gears and an aussie locker. The rearend is a dana 70 welded, 4.56's out of an old motor home. We used a modified ord shackleflip kit and are running stock springs for now. We made some removable traction bars from some tractor links that just unpin so it can still flex out on the trail.
The fuel system is made from a 12 gallon racing cell, 1/2" line to a holley blue pump and a holley regulator.
Future mods will be a complete msd ignition system and some lift springs so we can run a "diaper" under the motor to protect the engine compartment and hi torque starter from the mud.
We got this truck and it was a basket case. My son (now 17) and I have spent countless late nights transforming it into what it is now.

Here are some pictures of my friends racers. Disregard his pull truck with the white one.

Toyota-thing.
Toyota cab and Ford Ranger bed. The body lines startlingly line up great.
413ci small block (~700hp), TH350, np208, welded 12bolt rear, TrueTrac'd 10bolt front with Waggy D44 outers and drive flanges, factory shafts in the axles. Cut 35/1550r15 Slickey Thompson Baja Clawz. Dude weighs 2800#, race ready without driver. He ran a 4.019sec 200' last weekend after 5" of rain in Elko, GA on the throttle stop (at 3/4 throttle).

http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q263/silver98Z71/Picture049.jpg

The big truck.
Chevrolet cab and fabricated bed.
615ci big block (he says ~1000hp, I believe every pony of it), TH350, ProFab transfer case, spooled 12bolt rear, spooled 10bolt front, Waggy 'flanges. These axles have the goods, chromo shafts. 39.5" Boggers rear and 39" Iroks front. Race weight with driver is 4000#. It's a bad motor scooter. The primaries on the headers are bigger than the exhaust on my '98.

They hold up nicely.:flipoff2: Weighing 3000# on 35s with a 4.10 gear, it dosent get unruley. I havent seen him break any shafts with the green truck. With the white truck, he killed the NP208, then he put the ProFab case in.

There are rails at the bog with locked 9"/D35s and blown Alky big blocks on paddles. Driveshafts take most of their beatings.

Just a guess 35s and a throttle stop should help prolong it a bit longer as well. Not to mention the fact mud and wheel spin.

1963 Chevy II. Partial Front, boxed-in Cj frame. Custom rear tube chassis. Linked, locked. Kingcoils. Dana 60 front, Sterling rear, .410 gears, Fully built/forged internals,14 to 1 comp, dart heads, roller cam, brodix intake, 1050 Dominator. Art carr 400- Reverse valve body-full manual control, 3,500rpm stall and a trans brake. Line lock for burnout comps. A few sets of different size boggers on aluminum wheels. The truck was built primarily for mud drag comps and burnouts, but wanted a chassis that could do anything thrown at it. XXX Traction did most of the chassis work. It's a work truck for Blanco Basura.com Keep an eye out for it at the Lucas Offroad/Bully Dog racing events.

Currently holding 1st place 2 years running at the local mud drags (women's division with my wife driving!)

OH, this is an old pic from a couple years ago, not the local track. Don't have any good current race pics.

i used 4inch rear springs up front because 1 they are alot softer allowing more flex and 2 i already had them, plus it allowed me to push the front axle forward and use a rear shackle setup.its being built on the cheap. i have alot less $$$ in this build then most spend in gas money driving to work during the week :flipoff2: my front hanger is not as big as this guys and he beats the shit out of this truck. its strong and simple. ask pro on here and bob chandler how there hangers are holding up.

Ok, so I recently moved to California around Oceanside. I am trying to find places to go mudding, the places that I have gone the authorities don't like it too much. So I'm trying to find a place that I can play in the mud and not really have to worry about getting in trouble. If you can help me out, let me know

http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs108.snc3/15563_203178261443_572346443_3167051_8098742_n.jpg

This is my truck, its stock right now but in about a month I'm putting an 8 inch lift on it, any suggestions on the size of tires I should go with

And in need of a hood brace lol

That hood was too far gone, The past owner already had braced it in one spot on both sides then it crunched again right at the start of the brace on the windshield side. Ive put another hood on it since that picture was taken but it was already a little bent too, This one is braced really well so it shouldnt get any worse. For buying the truck for $500+$200 lift+$100 tires+$100 rims+maybe $200 in gaskets and other misc im into it for $1100 so i cant complain about what it looks like :D I call it my "Shitbox"

It kinda felt bad because there wasnt a dent on the truck when i bought it, The picture above was right after i lifted it and put the Baja Claws on it(now have TSL's) before it was ever really wheeled. Now it has a big dent in each door, A nasty scrape from the passenger front tire up the fender and across the door, Washington pinstripes down both doors, Grill got punched out, and now after a couple trips out to the sand dunes the fenders are hitting the windshield post/A pillar :D

My buddy's truck we been working on.
'97 tahoe 12 valve cummins, nv4500, 2.5 ton t-case, f/r steer rocks w/ 1-link suspension and 16" king coilovers, 54" boggers are just rollarounds:laughing:, going with 18.4 x 26" R2's. Suspension isn't dialed in just yet, gotta lower it down a few inches after the motor goes in and the springs settle.
