: TJ Dana 35 questions.

I just picked up a TJ, but need a rear axle. I was wanting to keep it simple and just put a stock 35 back in. Problem is...I'm not finding any dana 35's for a TJ that's local.

So, does anyone know for sure if a Grand Cherokee 35 or 44 will bolt into a TJ? I was thinking the brackets are narrower???

meausre them and if not the same, burn them off and weld them back at correct spacing

if you are putting in a rear axle anyways, go the extra mile and put in an 8.8 from a 96+ explorer. disc brakes are worth the swap.

99% of the D35 axles have zero market value. This is why you are not finding any for sale. Hunt around on local Club boards to see if you can find one that is still in working order that someone wants to get rid of. My personal opinion is don't spend a penny on a D35. At one point in time, I had a complete D35, drum to drum, yet I just about never could give (literally give) the axle away. If you are going to spend $$ and weld brackets, you might as well do the 8.8 swap.

just wondering why not. disc brakes? i imagine the control arm mounts are different? shock mounts different? probably any or all of these issues may exist thus creating way too much fabwork to justify for a D35 swap. probably best to locate an identical match. can't believe 97TJ500FT can't locate one of these turds:flipoff2:

control arm mounts and shock mounts on a zj are oriented at 90* to the axle tube where as TJ brackets come off at a 10* angle. Also the coil buckets require you to run a ZJ coil if you put them in a TJ, and the coil buckets are directly over the axle on a zj but they are centered in front of the axle on a TJ.

OK, looks like the Grand axle swap is out of the question. I understand the 8.8 is a great swap, I'm just truly looking for a dd TJ. The plan is to run this TJ as a dd for a year or so and then transfer my XJ stuff over. My XJ is running 60's f/r, full hydro, blah, blah...I have really nice running gear already and didn't want to put any more "build" money into the TJ than I have to. Just keep it clean and nice as a dd for a while and maybe get started on a cage and body protection in the mean time.

Get back with me when you have the TJ axle ready. I'm actually hoping to find a TJ 35 with 3.73's but could swap out my front gears if need be.

Anyone else have a lead on the 'ol TJ 35 for me?????

What do you expect? Should he drive it up, install it and then PAY you for the privlage? The cost of the shipping is resonable. It is not like there are not any junk yards in Ohio. And there just could not be at LEAST 2 that carry only Jeeps and mostly Jeeps. Your going to pay around $200 at a junkyard.

I did PM him about this deal. I told him it was awsome he was hooking me up with such a great deal it was just funny to still pay a majority of it in shipping charges. I also thanked him for being willing to put forth the effort to ship it for me. I said I would take it but it's not coming out till later.

Dude, I've been into Jeeps since you were suckin' on your mommas booby. Instead of offering your pissy comments that don't help the situation you should spend the time learning some new JEEP acronyms.

Yea right Aint nothing "prissy" about me. And so what your 30 now? You were getting reasonable deals, but they arn't good enough? You sound more like a Used car dealer than a Jeeper. Boy I got my ASE 1978. And worked like a dog ever since. So I don't think your older than me.

Alfred, are you done now? Can I get back to my thread? Man are you grumpy.

Thanks to everyone that has helped me so far. I'm not trying to be "picky". I know what I need and I'm trying to save myself time by finding the right d35.
