I found a nice '96 Disco with a blown head gasket (motor probably gone) for cheap. Will an old Buick 215 work as a replacement?

No but it should not be difficult to find a replacement 4.0 for relatively short money.

The reason it will not work is because although the Rover V8 is based on the Buick 215, Land Rover made many evolutionary changes to the block and other components over the years.

I will clarify my above "no" answer by saying that theoretically it would be possible with the right combination of parts, machine work, and some welding. But it is not reasonably possible. And you would end up with a inferior engine in the end.

Read up on the differences between the different generations of the Rover V8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover_V8

Roverguy.com, or ichopimports@yahoo.com. Both of them can get you an engine inexpensively.

How much is the Disco with a blown motor costing you? If it's anything more than free I'd look elsewhere, strong running Rovers are so cheap now it's insane.

D'Oh!

If you don't want it and the price is right, I might want it! Dayton's only three hours from me and my tow rig and trailer know the way without me!

If you were to go to that much trouble, a Buick 231 or 225 V6 would probably be a better choice.

Everybody has to pick on the busy man, don't they?

You should see the driveway! I am so tired of fixing EAS in P38s, I'm gonna cry if another arrives.

I'm expecting another nasty letter from the plan commission any day as I don't think I've been completely compliant since I got permission to keep the shop open. Business has been too good for me to comply, yeah, that's the ticket.

You'd accept that excuse, wouldn't you Andrew?

(on a more serious note, I spoke with a gentleman about picking up a '91 RRC, SWB in portofino red to build a wheeling rig, the price is about where I can hide it in the company books as an advertising expense, just like my new DSLR).

LOL, I thought you said it was cheap? A non-running Disco is NOT worth $1000.

I would like everyone to know it is with great effort I resist the opportunity to take a jab at the value of a running disco. Wouldn't want to hurt no ones feelins. :mr-t:

Look for an RRC for that kind of money.
