Here's a pic of the wife getting the truck stuck.. She jumped out to hook up the strap and left me to back it up. So I'm the guy who gets the pic taken..

We're going back on the 17th and more then likely have more pictures of the vehicles being stuck.

To give some more perspective on how that particular tank trap can devour ANY truck, here are two pics of mine (before and after) to put into perspective how fawked up that pit is to swallow it to the bumpers:

that 5 ton needed a tug boat rope and about a 30mph roll before all the slack came out! Everyone should know about tug boat rope!

I have seen full size trucks burried jump 6 feet in the air when the rope catches and narrows down like a snatch strap. And this was being pulled by a 2.8 ranger on 36's. So wasnt exactly a powerhouse here.

I totally understand, many of us stopped going because that event got out of hand. I myself and my local club swore we'd never be back. However, since then I've talked to the fellows running that event and been there myself; let me tell you that they've gotten their ducks in a row and have committed themselves to making the event fun and successfull again. Its well worth a second look ;)

Okay, I KNOW I'm the newb in this arena, as we just don't have mud in SW Colorado, but we do have lakebeds that we think are frozen and aren't. It's nothing compared to the pics above, but for my DSII with 35's (one of two in the country at the time, early '00), it was a good stuck. 150 yards from ANYTHING with the wife and son onboard. Ended up burying the spare behind a root and working my HS9500i hard. Someday I hope to play in some real mud with one of my Fords.

Last one is my Rover buddy, RanOver, who used to be a staple on the board & works at LR Denver East. I believe the pic is from Kelly Flats.

Best I can do:
http://photos-e.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v338/132/22/514713358/n514713358_889876_3094.jpg

Didn't actually get stuck there, but, I didn't leave the hole under power, swamped the distributor first, then instead of drying it out or swapping the cap for one of my spares(I have issues getting water through the vacuum advance on the dizzy if I'm in deep stuff...) I proceeded to try and exit the hole with it sputtering to death, and didn't have enough power to climb out, the third time I backed up to to run at it, I went for a 4K clutch dump, and packed the pressure plate full of mud and grass and that was the end of my motion under my own power for the day... LOL
My first time out on that trail, and I was the first one to that hole... One of my friends was riding my quad ahead of me and pointed me into that hole without giving me any indication of how deep it was... He also rolled said four wheeler later on in the day... LOL
My buddy Bill's 44 shod Chevota in the same hole on an earler run last spring:
http://photos-e.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v287/132/22/514713358/n514713358_619892_1567.jpg
He was not stuck in the pic, he did eventually make it out without any assistance... Bit it did take a while.

Tru dat! We had 4 trucks hooked up to it, prior to the 5 Ton, slamming the hell out of it. We all thought it was gonna come out in pieces. Bent up the drop brackets pretty good and broke the front shaft but stayed together and drove itself onto the trailer.

i forgot about this junk... picked it up out of a impound yard after a engine fire for $125 i was actually going to use it for a work truck but got it running and the 2.8 was only firing on 5 cylenders. so cut the fenders, slapped some 35s on it and away it went.

dang thing actually lasted like 3 years without breaking anything. took it to the cliffs offroad park and totalled it 2 days. broke everything on it

heres something i ran across. all these trucks were either broke down or stuck. the minivan blew a hose. the k5 was stuck and broke down... no air filter lol. the dodge broke down and while trying to winch the k5 the winch locked up  and there was a suburban too that broke down. my little s10 couldnt move them so i left, some big jeeps were coming down the hill and they couldnt pull out the k5 either. had to have a little backhoe or whatever that thing is pull them out.

theres about a year difference in the pictures. taken at sardis.

That is taken place at about 10 mins from my school, I go to Ole Miss and you have no idea how many calls you get with people getting stuck out there. On nice days and nights people go out there and drink, throw parties, shoot stuff, fire pits, beer pong, it's a lot of fun. But sometimes people in their Z71's and attempt to be cool for some girl and end up being very stuck. The hunting area are easy to get stuck at also, ask how I know. My heavy ass cummins stays on the hard packed dirt out there. My buddy has an 04' powerjoke with 42' iroks and a m15000 warn winch..... he gets a lot of 2am calls but pays for new fancy parts this way:flipoff2:

When fall starts to end they start to drain "sardis lake" which makes it have a ton of beach area and freshmen or people who are just dumb choose to drive on the recentlly added beach, they just sink in their tracks and don't move because it's that soupy. My buddie in the f-250 and I get called all the time and people don't understand our heavy A$$ diesels need to stay on hard ground.

i know where the skinny pedal is, my axle hit the ledge in front of me and wouldnt budge. also the mud wasnt slinging really well, i think a locker or something would help with that.

slinging mud in the forest is frowned upon by the forestery patrol.

The fronts are fairly new 44 boggers and the rear are 44 ag tires with good tread

The trans and trasfer case got a divorce and it broke a main leaf in the rear.

Just got tired of it and put all the junk into and on a K-5 I had laying around.

Don't flame on the attempted exo. He was trying to do it with no tubing bender, & no $$ to get one...did it 6 years ago (he has since had some welding classes, & can do WAY better, that is just where he was at that time). This thing has been around for 9 or 10 YEARS...started out on 31's with 44 & 12b, this is the 2nd Camaro body he put on this frame (after his son in law rolled the blazer & trashed the 72 sheet metal). & he has learned A LOT along the way on what NOT to do. The cage is coming off, & getting redone...as soon as my junk gets out of the shop. & yes he beats the living shit out of this thing!

Wow, any story behind the Superduty?

mud brother
02-16-2009, 03:03 PM
it was around 4 years ago when socal got all that rain . it was out in canyon country and what was usually a dry river bed now was a raging river that was about 300' across and this young kid with his lifted superduty thought it could go anywhere droped into the river and it was 3 to 5 feet deep so he got scared and turned around to try to get out of the river. we he tried to go up the bank it was about 6 feet tall strait up and his truck could not make it . finnally it stalled and the driver and passanger climbed onto the hood and jumped to the shore . they barly made it . they came back a few hours later to check on the truck to find it about a half mile down the river . a few days later after the river went down a friend of mine got the call so we got a bunch of trucks together for the extracktion . we got there around 1 pm and didnt leave untill about 3 am with no luck . here are some more pics .

So I can't take credit for this. A good friend of mine is in the marines runnin Abrams around Iraq right now. While in Kentucky for training, his tank commander told him to get the tank stuck so they could do their tank recovery training. Well seeing as my friend doesn't really half ass things, he got the tank really stuck. What was supposed to be a half hour class turned into an all day ordeal, took two other tanks to get it out and broke three straps in the process. Never seen the straps they use, but I'm sure they're very hefty

yep. I took the jeep off and tried to back out without luck, so we disconnected the trailer and dragged it out and I tried again with no luck.

Took a cummins on two and a half tons to get me out as I was sitting on the frame with the axle down in what I would call something like peat moss type mud. I think the 4,000 or so lbs on the rear axle are what did me in in 2wd like a dumb@ass I should have put it in 4wd when I left the hard pack.

I dont have to explain myself to no CIVILIAN, But if you must know, Im on what was called Camp Pacesetter at the time and it had a security fence around it that was over 18km long. Guard points with 50.cal's and 155 Palidan Howitzers. The nearest town was DiaAlya (sp)We also had a contingent of Maldovian Special Forces there and they were most probably the baddest mutha fuckers Ive ever seen in my life. My weapon is right behind me in the vehicle loaded with 30 rounds. There was always at least 2 more 30 round magazines on me at all times. Believe me this was a very safe area (except for the mortars and a M16 wont help then) and this was one of the very rare moments I got to let off some steam and smile a little.

Believe me this was a very safe area (except for the mortars and a M16 wont help then) and this was one of the very rare moments I got to let off some steam and smile a little.

All I was trying to get at is why would it matter if someone is a civilian or not (in this case). Soldier's shouldn't think that all civilians are completely oblivious to the mind-numbing stretches of boredom (punctuated with a bit of terror or course) soldiers go through on a daily basis. Sometimes, sometimes, not in your case, but sometimes, soldiers (and some people put in a position of power) seem to think they are in some way better than others. But I'm sorry for the confusion.

So, about this 8x8:D

HAWGWILD
05-23-2009, 11:20 PM
The 8x8 got a new cab and a box on the back that made it really top heavy. They designed a load-sharing system for it but I dont know how it came out. I believe the owner is from cali and was going to take it to South America for some adventure thingy.

DarkXJ
06-09-2009, 01:16 PM
The truck went first. Base game warden following a call about an injured CA Condor. He was told there was a road he could drive on. Either the person who called was yankin his chain, or an idiot.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii269/darkXJ/4-Wheeling/DSCF0226.jpg
Tram went second. Hit the soft stuff and sank immediately.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii269/darkXJ/4-Wheeling/DSCF0232.jpg
Next up was the TJ from the first pic and me in my then stock XJ. We didn't even get so far as the game wardens GMC.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii269/darkXJ/4-Wheeling/DSCF0225.jpg
Finally we called the cavalry, and two AAVs showed up. One with a massive winch the other as an anchor for when they pulled the Tram out.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii269/darkXJ/4-Wheeling/DSCF0246.jpg
We got the TJ out prior to that using a dually Powerstroke and a K5 on 35s.Then the Capt showed up, yelled at us, and called the AAVs. :D

Watched a John Deere like that get "un-stuck" outside of Dover, DE. It took two more JD's just like it, two massive bungie-cord straps, and a couple hundred pounds of lime.
The other two tractors pull out ahead of the stuck tractor in a "V" formation, get the bungies good and tight, and lock it down. Then they put the stuck tractor in low, let the tires spin slowly, and they start cutting open bags of lime off the fenders, letting the tires slowly mix the lime into the mud. Instant concrete. It eventually just walks right out.
I don't want to be the guy who has to clean the tractor afterwards.

Picture of a couple friends of mine. It took a mid-sized trackhoe to pull the SuperDuty out. Two Chevys on 40s couldn't budge him.

Gay night. PBB member Big98XJ was driving the Durango. He tried pulling out the 2wd Wrangler to no avail. My ZR2 couldnt budge his Durango. We sat there overnight and my friend drove an hour to pull us out with his 1500.
He never seems to have good mud experiences when he comes down to Fla

Saw this guy when I was leaving a LCross one time. I don't think he sold it to anybody that weekend.

This V10 took three trucks to pull him out (F150 on 35s, Bronco on 36s, and Ram 1500 on 35s).

These are two of my favorite pictures. The first shows the Jeep, clearly in deep water, with the Tacoma looking at him. Next pic shows the Taco in the same hole the jeep was just in. Idiots.

Here is a guy that tried to cross one of the retaining canals. His bud in a white Jeep (just as big as that red one or the black one stuck) pulled him out.
