the next step is to chop up the tailgate and mount it on there. I'm also doin a full interior cage that should closely match the lines of the original soft top, then doin a partial exo over the front fenders, with a mount for an 8274 up front. Should be pretty cool. Only problem is with all these removeable panels, i'm gonna be leavin half my body at camp whenever i wheel hard stuff LOL.

Whoa! That looks awesome! I really like the way you angled in the rear fenders like that, reminds me of Walker Evans' S-10.

So all those pieces are removable? Did you use those Dzus connectors?

Looks Good

walkers S-10 was one of the rigs i got the idea from, and yes the panels are held on by dzus fasteners. Only 3 per side right now, but there will be 2 more that mount to the cage. Man and i thought it rattled a lot before

Looks good Dallas, but never listen to my son :D . Are you also going to modify the hard top? I like what you did, now get some tires with tread.

StinkBug
08-19-2002, 02:09 PM
I'm workin on the tires. I'm poor tho, so i gotta make do with what i got, hell i haven't even finished payin rusty for these ones, i still owe him $75 :flipoff2: the hard top is pretty much sold now, tho i may modify the soft top i have in the garage.

Dave King out in AZ recently did a zuk (http://www.asianautopartsofaz.com/suzuki/mrsumo/mrsumo.html) similar to that.

Now it weighs so much less:eek:

StinkBug
08-19-2002, 05:17 PM
Not including the tailgate and the pasted on fenders it lost about 70lbs in sheet metal, i'd guess the tailgate weighs about 60 lbs, and the bumper i took off weighs another 75. Now my rear springs are so stiff i have to reposition my toolbox to get it to flex right.

Righteous Dallas. At least I saw it at Moab before you got "inpsired." hehehe 2 questions..... uh... 3 questions...
What about the Kawai Green Paint.......Do you have enough tread to make it up here for the Rubi-Zu.... and ....
How are you going to afford the trailer and tow rig ? :D

Dalllas, "The Boy" says that looks "Sweet, tight, or Ill" choose your adjective.

Looks good. I couldn't find any info on doing this a month or 2 ago. How hard, and do ya have some close ups of where you actually had to modify?

StinkBug

LilUzi, yeah i have enough tread for rubi-zu, and i'm too broke for a tow rig or trailer so i'll be drivin it. should be startin the cage tomorrow. I ordered the Kawasaki green a few days ago, a friend at the dealer is hookin me up with a case of rattle cans, tho it wont be green for the con i dont think.

Im4yotas, cutting it all apart took me about 2 days of work, about 8 cut off wheels and a pack of Millwaukee Torch sawzall blades. Then i spent another day or so trimming and fitting the fenders back together and mounting em. I've got a bunch of pics and will be uploading them to my webshots account today, so just click the sig and find the folder "narrowing that wide ass".

Looks good Dallas!Did the "AZ. Terminator" trail cause you to do it?If you ever out this way again let me know.Mike

StinkBug

actually terminator didn't convince me, i had to go and start repairing all my damage from that one, then dent it up some more at the hammers before giving in and pullin out the sawzall.

Cool. You got some big ass mud flaps for that? CHP won't like it. Here's a B4 & After shot for y'all.

StinkBug
08-20-2002, 05:54 PM
cool, thanks for the before & after. Last night i started fabbing the brackets for some easily removeable mudflaps. actually more like mud shields, i'm gonna be makin em outta some aluminum diamond plate i have kickin around. I'm sure it will be ugly as hell, but it should keep the cops off my ass.

I've never popped my MTR's so just wondering why you would carry a big heavy spare (up high) when so much work was done to loose weight  I don't know, do you really need it?

I dig the look of your 'Zuk.

It's not mine. It's Dave King from Asian Auto Parts of AZ. He owns it with someone who supplies him with 6:1 gears from England. The guy flys gears out every month or so and goes wheeling. From what I heard, it was built in a couple weeks (for the most part since it still has some little things needed).

Sorry M.Martian, I'll try to pay more attention. Just preoccupied with why people carry huge spare tires when the chance of flatting is so low. Bias ply Swampers,Boggers and MTRs to name a few are hard to break. Yeah they may pucture, but it's a really low chance.
I saw a guy at ttc (no names) carry a 44"bogger, with rim, on his really tall jeep. The spare must been 6' off the ground.

No problem. He does run in Arizona where there can be some nasty sharp rocks. Maybe that's why?

I actually carry a spare for my zuk though. 31" bias ply TSL. Not that big, but still heavy enough. I've actually had to use it though. I didn't cut the tire, but bent a wheel bad enough that it was leaking from the inside bead. I need to start carrying a bigger BFH on the trail with me.

Well we don't all have trailers and tow rigs now do we? Driving home with a flat tire sucks. :flipoff2:
