: Inner Tie rod removal question

So I have a bent tie rod on my 86 f150. It has power steering, if it matters with removal. On the drivers side I am attempting to take the damn thing out. So far I got the nut off (towards the middle of the vehicle). I tried a hammer and crow bar so far, was curious if there is any trick to removing these things, or just bang harder? Also, I didn't bother to remove the wheels or jack it up, is this a problem? I read somewhere it makes it easier doing the outer tie rod ends, but I don't see how it may benefit, but if it works it works huh.

Thanks for the help/advice

haha wtf do they call it a pickle fork for... Anyways, just wedge it in with the bushing and use it like a crow bar, or put the prongs on the tie rod and hammer the end (sounds like the latter)?

Pickle fork will work, but it will destroy the rubber bushing.

I hammered it in & then it popped.

After that I got a puller.

You get rent them at Autozone/Kragen.
If you bolt them down & have lots of pressure & they still don't pop, hit it (the knuckle portion) with a BFH. (and duck).

Soak it real good first with some penetrating oil. It never hurts... And then do what they all said above.

I used an idler arm puller on my 89 chev and on the driver side a 2.5 lb mini sledge was sufficient, Just remember to count the ammount of turns when you take it out.

Hit it on the side, leave the nut loose so you dont hit the threads.

I will try these ideas out today, thanks for the help, I'll let you know how it turns out. I don't care about the bushing the new one I bought came with a new bushing =)
