replaced everything in the ignition system, put a new icm in it, blew it out, replaced it, again out, after the 3rd one i've decided it can't just be bad icm's, i've had the alt. checked out and its good, any ideas as to what else could cause it to be goin out?

How bout the center button in the cap? Just because it's new doesn't mean good, so double check everything

You are using heat transfer dielectric right....?

Good call Keith.

Yeah, you gotta put the heat sink grease on the metal part of the Module, where it meets the body of the distributor.

If the store where you're getting them from isn't giving you the grease, go someplace else

well its motorcrap ignition, and it's internal reg. and i had the alt. checked out today at a place i've been takin my vehicles for starter and alt. problems for about 5 years, they do very good work, and he said the alt. was fine. so i went to napa, got the HEAVY DUTY icm and so far it has ran for about 3 hours no prob., the other cheap shit i had ran for about 20 min. so hopefully this will fix the problem till i get ready for the hei swap

We did a GM (non-HEI) dizzy conversion on a Jeep straight-6, and that ignition module got HOT! Wound up attaching a computer heat sink & a pentium fan on it after the 2nd one burned up like yours.. Heat is the enemy!
