: Welded spiders or Traction lok

I have a grand wagoneer that I installed a high pinion king pin dana 60 and a sterling 10.25 in the rear. The sterling has a traction lok limited slip that has seen better days. My question is should i rebuild it or weld it up? The wagoneer rolls on 37's with double beadlocks, and the axle has 4.10 gears. I live in Texas :dustin: and there isn't that much snow or ice. I would drive this thing on the road about 60 percent of the time the other 40 percent would be in the mud and trails. But mostly mud. I know that the tires would screech around corners but I could live with that much more than I could live stuck in a mud whole 10 inches deep. Could this limited slip be made tighter or should I just weld it.

Weld it. Track locks don't hold up well to larger tires.

Just welded my 10.25. I'll probably swap to a Detroit after this one breaks if the bank account allows it.

I suggest finding an open carrier and welding that, it will be stronger than a welded up TL.

What welder did you use. arc or mig welder.

the main problem with those trac locks if the fact that they chew away at the carrier.then they get soo worn that the clutches slop around and break, or they burrow thru the carrirer and it splits in half. i have had both happen twice. i am now running a detroit and lovin it. i am sure it all depends on the use and mileage from the user before but, i got 35,000 out of my daily driver power sroke with 32's.i got 10,000 out of my mud truck with 38's then replaced it and its still holdin after 5,000 some with 42's.

weld it but do it right and weld the spiders to the carrier too as well as the side gears. mig works well for me, brake clean the shit outta everything first.

he'd have to switch to an open carrier to go mini-spool.

As far as I know there is no such thing as a mini spool for the Sterling 10.25, and I have a limited slip and I would have to get an open carrier which would cost almost as much as a Detroit.
