So I got to looking into big tires and I really want the 395/85/R20 Michelin XML's but no one around here sells them. I've found a few people that sell the 1400R20 XL's but I hear they flex like crap and you gotta run tubes with them or at least beadlocks. So what's the deal are they a relatively new tire or are people using them until they are bald, and why do all these guys in the Oklahoma area have such ready access to them? One of you guys needs to bring a truck load of them out here and sell them cheap to us poor west coast boys!

Cool...the Replacement for the Duce made by Stewart Sevenson. Man I wish those were available to the general public. They have a 4x4 also. About the size of a 416 Mog. CTIS, And I think they have portals.

I was told by a surplus tire buyer that XML is more of a Canadian and Nato tread and the US uses more XZL's.

how tall are these tires in inches? I need something that measures under 40" in a 20" rim, does something like this exist, without paying bling bling prices?

If you want a tire under 40" on a 20" rim look for a 10.5 r 20. Most 404 mogs run these. The Continentals on my mog are pretty soft, don't know how well they flex yet. Here's where you can get them, or just look for Unimog parts:

yup lots of -40" tires on 20's out there, maybe someone can help me here, there is a canadian co. (tire shop) that has/had them redily available, all the way down to a 7.00-16.
on the stuart stevenson, FMTV, sadly no portals. kinda funny, they were actually started as a replacement for the ageing m35, " a modern vehicle to last beyond the year 2000" haha i think they will last that long huh? they are made in texas and i know they sell them to non-military also, like municipaltities, utlility companies and such. i wonder if they CAN be bought by the public??

The XM 47 is a good off-road tire from Michelin and they are street legal too. There are a few sizes that are under 40". You'll need either a 9" or 11" wide rim for this tire.
XM 47's (http://www.michelin-us.com/us/eng/tire/ag/pages/html/xm2747.htm)
I have a photo on my homepage of a Unimog with some really huge XML's on it. The the smaller Unimog next to it has 12.50 x 20 tires on it to give you an idea of the size.
Big ass XML's! (http://eurotruck-importers.com)
This is my first post so go ahead and flame my newbie ass. I'm wearing asbestos boxers. :emb4:

This tire is the Conti MPT 80 and it flexes ok if you get the 16 ply instead of the 22 ply. The 12.50R20 size has a diameter of 1030 mm or 40.5 inches. A little over your 40" maximum.
Myself or any other Conti Truck Tire Dealer can get them for you. Expect to pay between $300-$400 per tire depending on how much they get you on shipping.
