I have a 94 K1500 with a 350 and a 4l60e.. we got it stuck last night getting firewood and its out now... problem is it has no first gear.. manually shifting to first does nothing, other gears work fine, no slipping...fluid is at correct level, and fresh.. speedometer works.. I don't know where to start... thanks.

The first thing I would do is check is your 1-2 shift solenoid. If it went out your truck would start in 2nd gear even if you shift manually. If the solenoid is fine you probably have damaged internal parts. I would recommend bringing it to a transmission shop if you do not have experience overhauling transmissions. I had the same problem with mine and had to rebuild the whole thing about two weeks ago.:(

my truck has the same problem did you check it again after this happened. mine fixes itself after i shut the truck off for a bit. i swapped transfercases and dont have my VSS hooked up cause i only need first anyways. maybe your vss sensor broke?
but it happens to me sometimes when giving it alot of gas and it starts off in 2nd which really sucks for going down hills. i just shut it off for 5 minutes and it fixes itself

if my vss was broke, wouldn't my speedometer not work???? I pulled a branch out of the undercarriage that had hit the wiring harness for the trans, I think I have a broken wire...I hope so anyway.. the solenoids should get power when I shift it manually right??? or can I test them by listening for a click with 12v???

this is a little out of my league i never looked into it that much. my speedo dont work but my trans does shift if i shift it manually. which is really weird. so i guess just check all your wires clips and relays under there

well I did some more testing and found I have no overdrive as well.. wouldn't that mean it has to be electrical... first and fourth use different solenoids and clutches right???

it was electrical..the ignition switch supplys power to the trans and on mine it was bad... 2 hours tracing wires and 60 bucks later, it lives again..:)
