Alright guys I know it’s not a built thread or anything really exciting but was wondering if yall could help me out a little bit. Just starting to get into some offroading only 17 have always gone 4 wheelin with my friends and have always worked on their trucks on the weekends and want to get a vehicle of my own. I’m not illiterate about jeeps but don’t really know the value and cost of all of it. So im thinking about purchasing a 93 xj don’t remember everything that is on it but am going to tell you what i do know. First concern is the engine has 223,000 miles on it and it is not rebuilt. I know jeeps last a long time but that’s a lot of miles. so for the stuff that’s on it. It has a Dana 44 in back and a Dana 30 up front both have lockrite lockers and chromoley axle shafts. has 4.56's both front and back it has 9,000 pound warn winch long arm suspension lift and i know there is other stuff but once again don’t remember all of it. i am going to get him to write up a list of everything and will post the rest. Bottom line is he is asking 3,000 for it. I have seen the jeep plenty of times at a couple popular local wheeling spots in TN and man it is a beast. The jeep belongs to an owner of a local offroad shop so I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t sell me a piece of shit but though I would ask. Thanks for the help

other than the high miles, it sounds like a resonable deal. but honestly, my first jeep was an xj, bought it with 212,xxx on it and sold it with 300,xxx on it. ran like a champion the entire time i had it. if you wanna daily drive it then id say no but around town and a wheelin rig, go for it.

its a great start. so what if its got high miles? run it til it dies, then swap in another 4.0. depending on tire size and how heavy your right foot is, the axles should hold as long as you dont do stupid things with lockers engaged, and since its got a winch and buddies to anchor off of, and that will help you when (not if) you break something, looks youre all set :smokin:

wow that is just the answer i was hoping for i was a little worried about the mileage but planned on useing it for a weekend warrior probably wouldnt put more than 3,000 miles on it a year. i greatly apreciate it. also looking for ideas on where to go next. i am wanting this jeep not only to have fun but also to learn. family has never been in this so dont have a deep background besides a couple of my friends and their fathers. so any suggestions would be great. thanks again

wheel smarter, not harder. wheel it til it breaks, then either fix it (or upgrade if you can). if it doesnt work how you want it to, change it. alot of times, its not the rig that can't get over/through/around whatever is in front of you, its the driver not being able to put his rig exactly where it needs to be, and not using just the right amount of throttle, brake, and steering to get it through. to become a good wheeler, the steering wheel should feel more comfortable in your hand than your cock does, and you should know to handle it just as well

whatever you want to do, especially with an XJ, somebody has done it before :flipoff2:

Go check out some of the builds in the Cherokee forumn if you haven't already. But be carefull, they are a Hard knock group but have some awsome tech and builds. Also, If you want to learn something, read my build thread in signature. I cover some tech dealing with the exact year motor you have:D

Yes 3000 seems like a good deal given the parts. Don't worry about the miles, 4.0l xj motors are cheap if you do need one in the future, but you should be able to get a lot more miles out of it.

that is what i have heard. my friend had one with 330,000 on it and still running strong. ok i have a question earlier on i was told if its been thought of it has been done on here, well i have been searching all night and was wondering if anyone has seen a thread about a removable EXO cage. if anyone could help maybe give me a link that would be awsome. thanks

i dont think youd really want a cage thats movable. the whole idea of a cage, is that its not supposed to me at all, thus keeping everything inside the cage from getting pancaked. im sure its possible, but the attatchment points will be your weak point, and the cage might remove itself just when you need it most.

The mileage wouldn't scare me a bit. Besides an occasional head gasket, We've never seen a 4.0l at the shop fail without some neglect or abuse as a cause. I'd be a little more concerned about abuse, but a good once over should tell. I have seen shop owners kick the snot out of rigs. And the plumbers sink always leaks, ya know?

Not bad. Only thing I would change is the rear lock-rite. They are pretty nasty on the street

I am not sure what part of the World you are located, but this appears to be a real sweet XJ for $1,800....

so i talked to the guy today again about his jeep and i started asking about the axles. I asked him what he had on the rear end and he said that its a dana 35 with chromoly axle shafts. i was pretty pissed when he told me this, because the first time i looked at it he told me it was a 44 in the rear. he is running 35's on a dana 35 and i have heard nothing but bad news about the dana 35's. any suggestions or anything else you have heard about the dana 35's?

trussed and welded S35 with stock lower brackets.
I twisted a tube before the truss. I ripped the brakes off after. That's all the damage. It's been on 36 Iroks or 35's for 3 years
