: Waggy rears on all four??

ok this may seem like a dumb question, but why does no one run waggy rears on all four corners?...there are several guys on here that run XJ rears, on all four; and flex very nicely. but from "what ive searched & read" the most common pitfall is "weak main leafs" that "bend or beak".

Waggy rears are the same length as XJs being 51" and both have a 4" centerpin offset. (longer leafs=better flex & better ride,...with a stretch)...anyway just curious

any "usefull" help would be great:homer:,...or if you would like to use this as thread as your "emotional punching bag" also feel free:mr-t:

I think you have things confused here...... The Waggy spring guys refer to are the same length as a YJ spring, yet the locator pin is off set rather than centered as a YJ spring.

I forget the exact Waggy yrs but the Rancho 44044 is the spring part number, you can referance that when searching.

No hes right. The waggys that are th same length as yj's are fronts, the rears however are the same dimesions as xj's iirc

I'm not sure why no one uses them, they may be exactly the same, but if theyre stiffer that would make good sense.

Run 'em. That's 'old school' tech like what used to go around on the PBB MANY years ago, with great success I might add.

It's a good way to extend your wheelbase significantly without stretching anything.

Nice to see someone still uses leaves....

I would like to know how much it moves the axle.

How wide are these springs.

Will they swap into a cj.

XJ springs are 6" offset.

I run the rancho 44044s up front I have seen a couple jeeps with them in all corners and thats what gave me the inspiration to use the 44044s up front they work perfect for me I just wanted more stretch or I would have used them all around .. instead went with xjs in the back

from what ive gathered (feel free to correct me if im wrong) but with the 4" off-set (if ran at all four corners) youd get an 8" stretch. with almost no mods. (move steer box forward a lil, and not enough to need to move the tank in the rear) plus stronger than an XJ spring,...i dunno just wanted to see wha others thought. again feel free to add input.

What I did on my YJ in the rear is I used a set of rear leafs from a 2002 dodge dakota(SOA). I then attatched a bracket set on my rear bumper and re-used my original 1" lift shackles. It moved my rear axle back 10.5 inches. Yes, I relocated the tank behind my utility box running a 12 gallon fuel cell with external pump. All of this work and I still was able to lower the rear 1" from before(4.5" rubicon express extreme duties SUA).

The leaves aren't the same length. So you have four inches off set and then a longer spring, so it's closer to six just like normal xj leaves. Youd be looking at closer to 12" of stretch. Check out tomb raiders for a good idea.

ok, question? if a front waggy springs give about a 2" of stretch, but just bolting on in stock spring locations..and the center pin is off set by 2"...why would a 4" offset centerpin give a 6" stretch?...
i figured it would be like having holbrook springs, but with a stretch,..and a better ride

b/c the long end of the waggy rears is 27.5" to the pin and the standard YJ leaves are ~21" to pin. I was thinking the Waggy fronts were 46" but I'm using lift springs so I guess they have settled a bit since new.

To the OP, I suggest you do some more digging and not just go off of what everyone is saying on this thread. Mountain YJ seems to the best info. Other than that, a lot of what I am seeing doesn't add up to what I've read elsewhere over and over.

From what I understand a Waggy front leaf will give about 2" of stretch and close to 2" of lift. This goes for front or rear. So do it all around on a YJ or CJ-7 and get about a 98-100" wheelbase depending on whether you use offset perches.

is a link of "CJs flexing"...about 3/4 of the way down the first page is Keiths,...he was runnin 44044 waggy springs, and getting stupid flex; at that time was at 98.5";.....which would lead me to the conclusion with an addtional 4"s of centerpin off-set & 7"s of addtional spring length,...you could get more stretch AND more flex:confused: MAYBE?...

:beer::beer: is whats for dinner

so what do you think is better?...runnin waggy rears in the ft/ or XJs in the Ft?....

would be the same amount of stretch no? Im not sure about the differences on stiffness and longevity etc, or if there are any? I know a lot of people build " custom pack using xj or rear waggys mains....

any pics of waggy fronts on all four?...or waggy rears on all four?....

Ive ran waggy rs44044's in all four corners for years... until now, Im chopping and 4 linking.

good flex, I loved them, but there were some hick-up

Problem-------------------------------------solution
Bending mainleafs in rear(long shackle)-----clamp mainleaf to 2nd
rear too soft, axle wrap, hard on u-joints-----wrap bar

I run sprung under, with tall shackles, kept my cog down.

unless it was a typo... the original question was about waggy REAR springs... not the front... :shaking:

They're the same length as a standard XJ rear, which we clarified. So if you want to see what it looks like, i recommend looking at tomb raiders rig or erslll's CJ. Both have XJ's front and rear. My only guess for running the newer XJ springs over waggy's would be softer and more available.

GHOSTFACE

ya ive got a ton of Ersll's pics saved(he running XJs on all 4) his rig looks sick; anyway i posted this a while ago with the intention of trying to get an 8" stretch, and evryone complains about XJ springs being to weak and saggy, and i would like to keep them for more than a few trips...anyway i have to keep my "project" as a DD for a while...so i think plans have changed...push the front 4"(maybe using waggy rears) and the back 2" using waggy springs(that way i can keep the stock look, and TJ flares) and the cops wont give me shit.....it sucks being on a budget!!:(

Waggy rears are 57" long, which is a reason I suspect no one runs them on the front of their rig.

Their dimensions are within a 1/2" of F-150 springs:

I said fuk it. and called Alcan Spring; the dude is super cool and REALLY KNOWS HIS SHIT. you can get any centerpin offset you like, spring-rate you choose, lift, length, etc. plus for SOA apps they also build in a torque spring to help with the axel-wrap. and Im saving my money for the Orbit-eye bushing. anyway my 2Cents

anyway check them out for yourself:

ya that sounds about right,..the spring isnt that high priced IMO(44044's are $185AP) but what gets me is the $40 an eye for the orbital-eye bushing. i guess theres pros/cons on everything and most likely when i scrounge up some moolah, ill prob due still do it; (i had to sell my soul, and put a lean on the car just to get my POS out of the shop:mad3:)

I'm running XJ's on the front, with a waggy rear main leaf under the XJ main leaf. This combo seems to flex well, and the extra strength in the waggy leaf stops the axle wrap.

I'm running a stock waggy front pack on the rear. Wheelbase ends up around 100"

The flex from this combination is very balanced and predictable. I love it so far. My shocks appear to be limiting my down travel a bit, but the flex I have now is plenty for most trails.

Please try a little effort before post such a general question.
It real sucks when your search for info, and people answer questions that were answered the post, or couple post before.

Sorry for posting such a big picture, but since Bonehead can not seem to click on the link above...
