: fender hacking and flares
SSIIprop 08-19-2002, 09:28 PM I have seen Abba's truck with the square GM cut out flares for extra clearance. I am buying a Terra with full width axles and would like some more fender clearance with a clean look. I like the square flares but wondered if cut out flares from a '67-'72 GM would work just as well.
SSIIprop 08-19-2002, 10:16 PM Honestly I would probably go with something in the 35-37" range. It just has 31s on it right now. It is SOA of course but i would just like to do away with most of the rubbing.
Harvester of Sorrow 08-20-2002, 04:44 PM ABBA:
Did you have to cut any of the inner fender well to get those flares right? I am looking to do some modifications for when I go with 35's or 37's.
What flares did you use?
Cajun 08-20-2002, 08:15 PM Very nice! Any more info on those flares, i.e. who makes them, model #, anything?
Thanks
There James Duff flares .

Looks great! My daughters Full width SII will be running 38.5x16x16.5's and I love the EB flare idea!
Abba:
Those look diffrent some how from the ones I've seen on your rig before. Are they the same?
Also, what year Bronco? Thanks...
Nice looking rig !
There for 77 and down Bronco. The other flares are to big for that sice tires.
darren y 08-21-2002, 06:29 PM Abba, refresh my failing memory, what were those big GM cut out flares you used?? Got a good side view pic & part #?
My SOA '72 looks great on 38's but I'm debating about flares (at least on the front).
SSIIprop 08-21-2002, 08:01 PM Abba, those look pretty sweet. I was just wondering if the '67-'72 flares fit just as well. I was kind of leaning toward the rounded styling.
It's all in your taste? I don't like the round ones, all the Scout looks scare to me ,and round fenders I don't think so.
harkinoff 08-21-2002, 09:15 PM I know I'm going to get shit about this one, I use 6" tj flares, just for the street to keep it looking legal, I mounted them with wing nuts so I can pull them quickly before the trail:flipoff2:
The first time I drove mine with the flares, I got a tiket.I need flares I drive 5-6 hrs to get to the Con.

Hehehe. I drive around now without a windshield, no lights (except the headlights I have (blue diamond Off Road lights), no flares and no flaps. Cops just look are wave or don't even notice me.
Bwhahaha
abba,
did you hack up the inner fenders to put those chevy flares on?
what width diffs are you running too?
thanks.
pat
rig looks good.
Yes you have to cut the eners, and clean them up.:flipoff2: that is for you Curtis they don't even se you.
Abba'
Thanks for the info, but I have to act like a fawking newby' I can't seem to tell which ones are the ones you've used with such good results.
I just finished looking at the James Duff web site and they have six flares listed for pre 77 Broncos and none of them look squared like yours. Can ya help me out here?
Here are the choices listed
Urethane Fender Flares
Fiberglass Fender Flares
Trail-Flex Flares
Flexi-Glass Flares
Fiberglass Fenders

What type of cold beverage would you like in exchange for the info?
Thanks, Mike
Old Scout 08-28-2002, 11:38 AM Hey Mike N from the binder bulletin CHILL OUT MAN:flipoff2:
darren y 08-29-2002, 01:08 AM I want to put a set of Bushwackers 'CUT-OUT' flares on my '72 Scout.
I know they don't make them for scouts, but nothing else on the thing is even near stock, so what the heck I'll use whatever fits.
'72 Scout II, SOA/RS on full width GM 1 ton axles, 38" tires (so far)
The only problem is like a dunbxss I cut the rear fenderwells out first!? So now I need to find a set of Cut-Outs (I need the width) that have an inside width (front inside edge to rear inside edge) of ~40" (but no less) & an inside height (inside edge of the middle of the flare to the bottom level of the flare) of ~ 18".
So far this is what I came up with:
1) 67-72 GM (rears) 38 1/8"W, 13-15"H (a guesstimate)
2) 73-80 GM (rears) 39 1/8"W, 13.5"H (like Abba's in the TTC)
3) early broncos (rears) 39.5"W, 17"H
4)73-79 Ford F-series (rears) 40"W, 14"H
5) mid 80's? F-350 (rears) 42.5"W, 17"H
6) 3" roll x 25ft of rubber fender from JC Whitney
Obviously option #6 is the cheapest, I prefer the rouder versions of the above (69-72 GM are round, 73-80 are more squared)
So far I think option # 5 is my only chance for Cut-out style flares, I'll see how the 3" flare from JCW looks first.
Anyone who can verify some of these measurements or has any other ideas/advice, please let me know, thanks!
Darren Y.
Old Scout 08-29-2002, 07:31 AM what is this? not getting enough response form the binder bulletin?

harkinoff 08-29-2002, 11:38 AM well there fawking ugly, but its legal, I mounted them with 4 bolts each and wing nuts on back side for quik removal, and I'd like to ad an opinion, you gives a fawk what they look like, there just for the street not the trail, same with the mudflaps, incase you were wondering what they are off of, they are newer wrangler flares:rolleyes:
Harvester of Sorrow 08-29-2002, 01:44 PM Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha ha haaaaahahahahaha!

harkinoff 08-29-2002, 03:57 PM I told you all, there fawking ugly!!!!!! but its legal, when its on the trailer the flares are left in the garage!!! and yes we have some jerkoff cops about having the tires covered, and mud flaps, wished I still lived in wyoming for that reason!!!!no lift laws, no nothing laws there!!:D I thought you all would see the humor in that one:flipoff2:
