i picked up a 2001 4runner which already had aftermarket tires/rims. its running 31x10.5R15 currently, but i'd like to get bigger tires (32" ideally) without a lift. some people i have called have said there is no way a 32" will fit, while others (like tirerack) said it will fit fine w/o any mods. the 31s look small on there now, so i think getting 32s would fit, but thats just me eyeballin it...

if that wont fit, is there anything wrong with using a strut spacer (say 2")? that was suggested by a local 4x4 shop, and they run ~$300 for the front struts.

any info would help...

thanks,

WIthout knowing the backspace on the aftermarket rim,
no-one could say with confidence one way or the other.
Have someone turn steering wheel from lock -to-lock while
you watch each front tire for closest interference point. if you do not have at least 1.5" of room, 32s
will probably not clear.

( yes, I know that 32s would only be
1/2" closer, I'm allowing for stuffing )

MMMMMMM, stuffing........

thanks for the reply. i did try that and i think its going to be too close to go up a size. ill just have to keep the lil' guys and save up for a real lift.

I have a 2002 4runner with a 3" lift on it, I am running a 285/70R17 which is approximately a 33" and under hard turns it would rub a little until I took a BFH to the pinch weld in the rear of the front fender. Hope this helps you imagine what tire you can fit in there.
