I work as an estimator for a large construction company here in Lubbock, TX, a set of plans came across my desk today for me to price out and build a fawkin hummer2 test track... I was like, holy shit, I am actually going to get to do something fun here at work.. then i dug into the plans and its fawkin gay as hell... the dealership managers were all talking about how they had to drive a hummer2 up a 45 degree slope and went over 12" boulders... I am like wtf... my tahoe my wife drives would take this shit..anyway. they even have a deal were you drive up and put 3 of the wheels on conveyor rollers so the rear limited slip will kick in and push them off the conveyors... gay as hell.... they didnt like it when i told them the course was pretty lame... they said they wanted something to show the customer what it is capable of and that they didnt want to tear the thing up.. It looks like an Armored Bank Van....sorry guys I had to vent, I hope I didnt offend any Hummer2 fans, oh well, if I did, here's to ya :flipoff2:

oh ya best part is the man made slopes will be paved with concrete and the rocks will be set in concrete as well...the whole damn thing will have a curb around it...oh ya, you get to drive over a telephone pole laying down too.... jeezz

Isn't that basically all the H2 really is? Just a standard Chevy drivetrain and suspension?

They really did ruin a nice capable vehicle.

there is nothing hardcore about hummers and there never has been but at least now they might drive down the road well wither way in my opinion:rainbow:

the H2 runs on a 3/4ton chevy front with a 14 bolt rear and a 6.0 vortec... basically a 3/4ton Tahoe.. Oh ya, they said they are coming out with a hummer the size of a Trail Blazer.... can you imagine that.. a little hummer...

Yeah, they've got something very similar to that at a 'Rover dealership here in Scottsdale. Pretty funny to drive by and see them giving demos on it occasionally. Some goofy ass salesman in a suit and tie trying to impress the would-be buyers on the "modified pebble parking lot".

It is all about marketing, and image. It is the ability to sell the "lifestyle". Its not just about buying a cup of coffee it about the "Starbucks" ambiance. Same thing with cars.

DRM, doesnt it remind you of a armored van... looks like a Loomis or wells fargo truck..

Hey, idea here, if someone wants a real 4x4, i'll take your 50k you were going to spend on the H2 and sell you my Cruiser..

Sounds just like the Land Rover Centers. They do something very similiar. The only cool thing about the Land Rover ones is that some of them take the truck aon a 42 degree slope! That'l get your panties in a wad.

there is an H2 that runs around La Jolla all day long plastered with some vitamin shit on the side. I checked it out when it was parked at the bank one day and almost started laughing. what a POS. Might as well by a new exploder.

invite the hummer dealer to take one of the h2s and go on some of the trails you take your cruiser on. that would impress some potential buyers.

it would only make the dirt road to get to the trail, but i guess that would impress buyers of H2's.

I was leading a ride a few months ago for some Hummers at a local riding area called Windrock. The dealers had brought a H2 in a enclosed trailer with a complete mobile shop.
The first day they took it out, they busted the side of it up and had a new side glass overnighted in, so it would look good in the pics. Even had a dent wizard guy beating on it for a couple of hours.
The next day they broke an axle first thing in the morning on a nothing trail. I never saw it after that. All in all, it was on the trail(easy, easy trail) for about 2 hours total and that was more than it could handle. Pretty sad, but it would sure impress the Jonses at the local supermarket.

yeah....

This hooottt chick gets in the black H2 that is parked kitty-corner from my Montero. My first impression was, look at her or look at the H2? She being only late 20's to early 30's, she looked my way!

As she backed out of her spot I pretended that my almost 2 year old needed something out of the back seat. She kept going farther and farther, deeper and deeper, then wham! Backside of the H2 to the frontside of a curb pole.

I wasn't looking at her, I wanted to see the H2 in the Safeway parking lot. It seems that they are not even that tough in their own home!

I build houses for a living. The guy who owns the plumbing company we use came out last week to check on things in his new H2. He was not impressed when I asked him - "How much did you pay for your Tahoe?" And he thought I was kidding when I suggested he try to follow me around a course of my choice, him in his Hummer and me in my work truck/daily driver a '95 4x4 Explorer.

Take my word for it. You are wrong. The Exploder is an attempt at being a car. The Hummer 2 is an attempt at being a real 4wd. It has an E-locked (True switched spool) in the 9.5" 14 bolt semi floater rear end. It has traction control through the 9.25" IFS front end, however GM actually tested with a front ARB and one is available if you want, but not from the factory. It has on board air, no CTIS (Would be extremely tough without geared hubs) but ride height is adjustable with the 5 link air bagged rear. The 6.0L makes 315 hp and feeds through a 4l65E with 3.06 first gear to a BW T'case with 2.64 low and 4.10s in the axles. 35"s are an option and it has full skidplating, far heavier then any stock vehicle except the H1. Frame mounted rocker protection also comes from the factory. It has a throttle which becomes more progressive in low range. The overhangs are far shorter then a Tahoe and the frame is all 3/4 ton stuff. Say what you will about styling, at least it doesn't look like a CRV.

Essentially it is the same wheelbase as short bed/reg cab pickup and is stronger, more powerful, more protected and shorter. The only thing that sucks is th $50K price tag. To me this truck needs a winch, all four doors removed and a front ARB and its ready to wheel. Replace the tires with some 37" MT/Rs ($188 at Tire rack), crank the T'bars and inflate the rear susp and you are golden.

saw one today .. don't look like a 14 bolt

ramv

It is. It's the 9.5" semifloating 14 bolt that Chevy has used in 3/4 tons for the last 22 years. It is not the 10.5" or 11.5" AAM full floaters used in diesels and 1 tons though. It is the only axle the E-locker is currently available for. Petersen's did an install in a 3/4 ton Chevy a few months ago. If you don't believe me, pull the 14 cover bolts and count the 14 bolts holding the ring gear to the carrier. GM has not offered the 12 bolt since the early '80s and the ears on the current 10 bolt (8.6" ring gear) are extremely prominant and make it easy to identify.

It has 1.37" axle shafts, 33 splines and two pinion bearings. Since '99 the pick-ups and '00 in the Subs, they have all been 8 lugs with disc brakes.

Dude, settle down. It's just another IFS Poseurmobile. And a heavy, ugly one at that. That thing would leave a swath of plastic side-cladding chunks a mile wide down any real trail I've ever seen. Sounds like you've been brainwashed by GM/Hummer's PR people though...

The H2 is not designed for the trail, it's designed for the mall parking lot.

IMHO,
Jake

Does the 9.5" 14-bolt have 14 bolts holding the ring gear to the carrier? I know that my 10.5" 14-bolt only has 12. . . and no, I didn't leave 2 of them out!

14 bolts on the cover, 12 on the ring gear.
