Here's my application.

1988 V8 350TBI (and flywheel)
1974 SM465/NP205 (and bellhousing)

Which clutch to get? I know I want a 12" disc, with 10 spline at 1-1/8", but what year application should I get? Summitracing.com shows two different p/n's for those years of parts. For years 55-80, they offer a RAM OEM replacement with p/n RAM-88770, and for years 81-89, they offer a RAM OEM replacement with p/n RAM-88793.

I want the clutch to be a diaphram type, because I'm using hydraulic linkage. No other info is offered on their web page, could it be the only difference is B & B vs. Diaphram or do you think there is a difference in pressure plate height or amount of throw needed to disengage, etc?

What advice can you guys offer?

Chris

If you are getting your slave cylinder from Advance A. You might want to get their reccommended clutch. They told me the slave cylinder will be out of a Toyota land cruiser and it has a short throw. They said the flywheel should not be more than one inch thick and to use a centerforce pressure plate. So I am going to bend over and pay their prices. Somethings are worht it to me. I do not want to take it out and do it again. Also did you mean 11 inch clutch?? I am still in the investigation stage and can help you out as I get more details. But I am doing the same thing you are right now. Retro fitting a SM465. Keep in touch let me know how it is going.

I have a SM465 behind my 4.3L. I used a CF2 pressure plate and a CF clutch disc. I used a pull type slave from CNC (very similar to a wilwood pull slave) and a CJ master. Pix are on my website somewhere under the vortec swap link. I also have a Chevy V8 flywheel on the 4.3L with a V8 bell housing.

See the "www" button below.

I e-mailed the guy with the CJ I sent you pics of for the slave cylinder setup, I pretty sure he used a stock type clutch for an 80's Chevy Pickup, but I'll let you know. I wouldn't use a Centerforce clutch, good ceramic element on one side, cheap stock type element on the other, which do you think will wear out first? Too many bad experiences with Centerforce, use Luk, Zoom, or Clutch Dynamics. Clutch Dynamics can make you any kind of clutch you want, they made me a killer ceramic for my 4cyl, with S-10 4.3 hub and extra springs, too bad I had to replace it when I went with the SM420, but the one I have know is basically a V8 clutch sized to fit my 4cyl flywheel, he just happened to be out of ceramic element material, so I ended up getting the good old stuff they are not supposed to used anymore, I think I'll wear through the flywheel before that thing burns up.

He just got back with me, he used a Luk 11" diaphram style clutch for an '85-'91 Pickup or Blazer with the hydralic clutch system because he originally was going to use a 4.3l S-10 bell housing with the slave mount built in, but it was cracked, so he suedth TLC slave I sent you info about. This clutch required .500"-.540" to disengage, no problem if you're using a Wranger master and pedal with the TLC slave

I assume you mean on the clutch disc? I noticed no difference in the materials on mine when I installed it. It bites like a SOB.

Yes on the Clutch disk, the ones I ran in my old Toyota worked great at first, but I couldn't get more than 10,000 out of them, plus teh cost is considerably higher than the Luk or Clutch Dynamics, Zoom is kinda pricey

Thanks for the info guys. Yea, 4Bangler, I decided to use the 94 YJ Master/Slave kit that is found in the 4wdh catalog. Also can be found on the rigidsteel.com website. I paid $99 for it. I want to use a diaphragm type clutch as well. I called summitracing a little bit ago, and am not happy with the clown who answered. First of all, he was pretty darn rude. Second, their website contradicts with their catalog and he couldn't offer any resolution to it...so...F'em.

I then called my local place, FleetPride (previously Universal Joint Sales) and had them look up a Luk replacement. P/N 04-064 is what fits. It's a 12", diaphragm style with a 10T 1-1/8" spline. Perfect for this setup. Its a complete kit, pressure plate, clutch disc, throwout bearing and pilot bearing, plus an alignment tool. All for about $100. I couldn't believe it. They have 7 instock, and I'm going to go get one wed/thursday. I'll drop off my 75GM front CV shaft at the same time to have that refurbished and ultimately shortened.
