1987 f-250....i changed out my ignition switch this morning because the key didn't work and the truck would not turn over. the turn is stiff, kinda sticky. is there any thing i can spary in the column to make it more smooth, or is this something that needs to be replaced. :shaking:

did you get a whole switch it or just the tumber????. Sounds like part of the tumber it not seated properly. I would take it back apart clean and lube it and go from there

yea i went to advance auto and bought the whole ignition switch for 11 bucks. the spring works in the switch. just stiff from there. figure i could take out the switch and spray some gps or wd40 in the column. might loosen it up?

is it a tilt ?

there is a small pot metal actuator that breaks. it is what moves the ignition switch itself from the key and tumbler - it is common, napa has them

it will cause the key to be hard / no turn. or it wont crank even if the key is turned all the way. sometimes you wont be able to shut it off
