Does anyone have people flying into Orange County or LAX that week?
Days, Times, and how they are planning on making the Lakebed?
What about flying out?

I have one crew member looking to fly in Wednesday, and another looking to flyout Saturday.

Trying to do some ride share.

EDIT: Flights have not been booked so its all very flexible at this point.

There are two of us from Indianapolis getting ready to book tickets to Ontario landing wednesday around 1-4 and flying out sunday hopefully after 12:00. Let me know if anyone can help. Anyone know if a Taxi could make it to the lakebed? Seem like a taxi ride would be better than renting a car for 5 days to only use on 2 30 minute trips.

Ontario is not 30 minutes from the lakebed... I don't know who told you that--or what they were smoking! It's 90 miles so plan on 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic. Rent some cheap ass chevy aveo or something. CHEEP.

I am down with a Sunday trip to Ontario or LAX.

ontario = hour and a half.. LAX = 3+ hours dependent on traffic/150 miles...

Ontario is much less of a clusterfuck airport than LAX.. But either way you'll get there :grinpimp:

Some airports like Jackson MS do not list Ontario as a destination if you want to use ONE ticket. You have to pick up your bags in Houston and then re-check them.

LAX works for some. Just depending on the airline and the airport you start from.

Settle down boy. :homer:

My 3 local airports (newark, laguardia, jfk) all had the Houston stopover when I checked. It was also 40% cheaper for me to drive 3 hours and fly out of Baltimore with the rest of the guys I am going with as opposed to flying out of my local 3 and meeting them in Houston or Ontatio.

What's the best way to get to the lakebed from Ontario? Or does anyone have an adress I can plug into my GPS?

You start out at the 10 and the 15(where the airport is).. get on the 15 north till Apple Valley/Victorville... plug in johnson valley into your GPS it'll get you on 247 east and when you've been outta lucerne valley for a while you'll see a sign that says Boone RD. I think it's a CA State land sign I forget what all it says.. Take a left and it gets ya to the lakebed.

FYI Ontario is about double the price as LAX. That is why my buddy is flying into LAX. And from Knowville the flight goes through Huston.

from LAX or Onterio, the town to plug into your 'locator' is Lucerne Valley--
for a further refinement-- Boone Road

but you would be looking for I-15 to Victorville/Apple Valley-- east on 247 to Lucerne Valley-- east @26 miles from the stop sign, to Boone Road--- (EASY TO MISS ) BLM sign on the south side of the road-- turn NORTH on the drirt road @5 miles--------- (note;; slow down on the concrite wash crossings !! 2 of them )---
far end of the lakebed-----------------------------------------

I would take the 10 to the 62 through Yucca Valley to the 247 to Boone Rd for an arrival at LAX or Ontario. Landers is the closest "town" to the Hammers (5 miles to the east).:)

Yes, just try to avoid the 3pm to 7pm eastbound traffic. Here is the last image of the 247 from Landers to Boone Rd (I was off a few miles:D).

Landers, got it. The maps cleared it up a lot. The furthest west I've ever been is Arkansas so I am a total tourist. Looks like it's almost the same distance to take 15 north to 247 south as it is to to take 10 to 62 to 247 north? We'll be landing at 11 am or so and picking up an RV somewhere near the airport. How is everyone flying to to WHICHEVER airport getting to the lakebed?

Hitching?
Ass or Grass?
Cab?
Rental Car?
Buddy?
Rickshaw?

I would prefer not to take 7 hours out of a day in the Hammers to drive to LAX, wait for a delayed flight, then drive back.

Is anyone coming that way, anyone have interst in splitting the rent on a car for guys, etc......

My first thought was to pack in my suitcase a sign that had KOH on one side and LAX airport on the other. Then just stand by the road to get to and from. :D

I beleive we will be renting a car and wouldn't mind splitting the bill. As I said, we'll be arriving between 1-4 roughtlly on Wednesday and flying out after 12:00 on sunday. We haven't bought tickets yet but are close. Let me know.

Palm Springs international is the closest airport to the lakebed, about an hour or so but it'll cost more than any other airport to fly into. That's assuming your flight goes to PS, most of the time you will fly into LAX then take a commuter flight to PS.

I have driven both ways from the San Bernardino/Redlands area. The I-15, 18, 247 seems add about 20 minutes more driving because of the traffic on Bear Valley Road and the slower speeds. Catfish is right, the CHP does hang out on the 62 and 247 so watch your speed but even at the speed limit it is faster than the other way.:)

If you do get a ticket, ask the kind officer to transfer the case to the County seat of San Bernardino (not the Joshua Tree Court). They are obligated to do so. :D Hopefully this doesn't happen, but if it does, PM me for more details.:grinpimp:

Edit: You also asked about the route of travel. Google wants you to take the 60 east to Beaumont and then the 10. You could also take the 10 east all the way. When you land at 11am, get the RV and finally hit the road, you might hit the first part of the traffic at 3ish. KNX AM 1070 has a good traffic report every 10 minutes or so. So if you hear "there is a sig alert on the 60 eastbound" take the 10.

If your considering going through LAX. It's 3, 31/2 drive out to the lake bed. Through heavy traffic. Another thought. Would be to go through Las Vegas. It's only about 3 hour drive. Plus your going to be able to go 75 to 80 mph all the way. Las Vegas closer to the East Coast. Possible cheaper plane ticket. Just a thought....

I have found LAX to be cheaper by far from either Dulles, Charlotte, or Greenesboro (Charlotte is easiest for me). The tickets I have found from CLT to LAX are in the $236/RT direct flights. To Ontario, it will be at least another $100, so I am willing to put that into a rental and just take another hour or two drive time once I get there. I am going to try and plan my arrival in LAX toward the end of rush hour, and coming home on Saturday, so hopefully traffice won't be too bad.
