What is the stock wheelbase on a Sammi? I am new to the Sammi world and may pick up two off a friend to build to run the rcok crawls comeptitions on the east coast. I was thinking of maybe getting on to around 90-102" and using waggy 44's or something similar. I want to run either 37" Goodyear/BFG's or some 38" swampers.
The suspension will stay leafs up front (different length though) and it will be 1/4 elliptic in the rear...

Just trying to see what others were doing in a similar set-up.

Your Sammis looks nice... How do you like the coils and do you use it on the rocks at all?

Stock wheelbase on a Sammy is 79". I would shoot more towards the 102" wheelbase and the Waggy 44s.
Be careful going with leafs in the front and elliptical in the back. I have seen a lot of people have problems with the rear wanting to do all the work and the front flex very little. Pretty much whatever the front axle does, the whole truck does. What I mean is if you drop a front tire in a hole the whole truck will stay parallel with the front axle and try to turn you over instead of staying more level.
Anyone else got opinions on this?

Shannon Campbell has been runnign that suspension combo for years and it seems to work well for him. Depending on cash flow and/or sponsors for next year, coilovers would be nice! :)

What wheelbase is the Sammi in your Avatar?

The reason for this is a poorly designed 4 link in the rear. The locating arms are tooooo short causing massive front tire lift all day long. The TJ's were famous for this. If you design your 4 link properly this will not happen.

Nothing in particular with the 4-links, it actually is the balance of spring rates. This includes spring rates from bushing bind etc and just running out of travel to balance.

Its actually fairly hard to make a suspension balance front and rear all the time since when we are driving up and down stuff we really change the weight distribution on the 4 corners. Not just a simple long arm fix.

If Shannon is using it, it can work then, but like Slowzuki said, watch your spring rates.
My wheelbase is 115", too long, I feel, for competition, but works real good when the cones go away.:)

If you are planning on running D44's on 38's in competition, you need to keep your weight down. A friend's Sami has a 4.3 with dual cast iron cases and he snaps D44 axle shafts like tooth picks with only 36's!

Keep it light or you'll have to do D60's... :)

So do you have any axle problems as far as breakage? I am usually pretty easy on stuff and use a lot of throttle finese(sp?) but there are some times when you just need to get on the pipe! :)

Anymore pics of your Zuk? I like it!!!! BTW, you have your Boggers grooved. siped or anything? Any probelms with sliding on rocks?

THanks!

Wow, those things do flex nicely!!!! How long are YJ springs? My bro has 2 sets of them, maybe I can talk him out of one set! :)

I wheel this thing very very hard.....And im not very easy on the throttle either! I did break a front axle one time, but since then i have Warns and CTM's....awesome!! I do have a 6:1 case and 5.38 gears, that helps with crawling!! But I dont hold back in this rig at all! Rolled it 9 times now..........:flipoff2:
The boggers are not grooved or anything, and i feel that they hold as well as an SX!

For the wheel base.....It is a zuk, not a buggy, part of being a zuk is being short.......Yeah i went really wide (im 80" aired down) but i like the short wheel base..... Im just stretching it out a little bit for the steep ledges that i do have problems with now.
