: OSW for comp rigs??

Some may consider this "top secret" but for those who don't- what are people running for overall width on their competition crawlers? Seems like I hear from 72" to 82" measured outside bulge to outside bulge.

I've been running 74-81 depending on which axle and wheels/ tires but I just lowered my rig's weight quite a bit and with my lower CG I'm considering ditching the spacers.

On a tangent- anyone ever do any static testing for tilt- either with winches or fork truck- tilt rig sideways to the approximate balance point and check angle of tilt with an angle finder? I know it does not take into account real world dynamics but it's a good indication of how much you improved the cg after mods.

74" on the 106" WB TJ

83" on my 100" in YJ

Full size (80"-84") works fine if you can cut your tires tight. I mounted my draglink close to my knuckle, added a long pitman arm, and I turn tighter than I ever have. Easier to squirm through gates when you're a little narrower though. But this could limit your turning ability with suspension to tire interference. I would shoot for mid to upper 70s if I had the cash to narrow (say 75-77 front and 72-74 rear). I like 2-3" narrower in the rear for following better in corners. Hamilton runs I think 5" narrower in the rear on his cruiser buggy, it corners very well.

I'v just stretched my CJ from 99 to 104 and lost about 200 lbs of rear tub/bobbed frame etc in the process. Stability is now improved due to WB and lower CG. I had considered spacing towards high 70's with my Krawlers vs the low 80's I've been running with my 38.5 TSL's.

Front axle turns very tight, + cutting brakes so I turn pretty well. Just thinking about getting down to the mid 70's (75 frt and 77 rear) for manuverability now that my CG is better etc. Just trying to get more of a feel for what others like.

I meant 75/74rear, as I speak it's 78/77 rear
