: 1" vs 2" Body lift

(I did a search, got 10,000 some odd pages back, and gave up looking after page 15 or so)

I need to put a body lift on my YJ to clear the Atlas and clock it up level with the frame.

Option #1:
1" Body lift + Cut out floorpan and modify drivers seat mounting hardware for a raised section in the floor for the Atlas to fit in.

Option #2:
2" Body lift + minor floorpan modifications

Option #3:
No body lift, from what I have been told, a LOT more work on the body clearancing it to fit in, and probably not clocked up at that.

I have a 2" body lift in the box, in the garage now. My concerns are its affect on my COG and stress on the body. The Jeep already has about 7" of suspension lift. I'm thinking I would be better off getting a 1" kit.

Based on your guys experience, how much of a difference does a 1" or 2" body lift make to your COG, how often does body mount problems come up?

Well it seems that you know what the cons are with body lifts, generaly its not that big of a deal but if you can avoid using a body lift, cut the sheet metal.

I assume you have a full cage so cut the floor and forget about the seat mounts. Fab up a seat kit off the cage (which is the right way anyhow) and clock that baby.

I went from 1" to the 2" when I put the Atlas in, didn't notice significant changes during wheeling. I even raised the engine 1" in the process.

Although, I did raise my skid 1.25"+ at the same time and did no floorpan mods. Point being, if you clock it right you should get it in w/ no floorplan mods. :D

Ramstein:
Ideally, yes, I should just tie the 6 point cage back in to the frame and tie the seats to the cage. I don't have the time to do that until maybe the end of the year. (I also lack the bender)

I would like to put the Atlas in before the end of the year. :p

P&T:

Something I probably didn't make clear, I would like to clock the Atlas up flat so I can put in a flatter if not flat skid plate.

yea, I got you, my skid only hangs down 1.5". I modified the mount in the pan, just high enough that the bolts don't come through the bottom of the skid.:D
