: Knuckle dimensions?

I have been on the search to figure out how to do crossover steering on a toyota FJ80 front axle. So far, (aside from ordering the $1100 kit from Slee), I haven't found anything that will work from a toyota. In a junk yard a while back, I saw a rover front axle that looked similar to the FJ80 front end. It had coils, closed knuckle, radius arms, etc. Has any body ever tried to swap parts from this axle to the FJ80 front? I've heard that rover front ends are different internally, but what about the knuckles?

Do the knuckles fit the cruiser front end, and do the rover knuckles have a four bolt trunnion top cap? I'm new to the rover stuff, so any help you can give would really help. Thanks.

Coilers are 2 bolt swivel pins IIRC. I suppose you could graft them onto a Toyota axle but don't know why you would want to. You are ahead with the Toyota stuff IMHO.

The FJ80 front end has the two bolt top cap, and a four bolt bottom cap. I was hoping that at some point, the range rover stuff would have the four bolt top cap, and fit over the FJ80 closed knuckle.

I think you are out of luck- the leaf sprung Rover stuff had 4 bolt swivel pins, but they went to two bolt when they went to coilers. Don't FJ40's FJ60s etc have 4 bolt top caps/ swivel pins??

Where is JL?- he knows this stuff better than I do- He could be of more help....

Thats correct at least for the LC60 having 4 bolt tops. The Crossover caps/arms from a Hilux minitruck fit onto the LC60 ends if that helps, but it brings the tie rod to the front. I'm not sure if the axle tube ID is different between the 60 and 80 axles.

Swapping knuckles over from a coil sprung rover axle would do you no good. There is no high steer solution available for these axles and the tie rod is in the same position as a LC80 axle if I remember correctly. Plus the coiler rover swivel balls are smaller and weaker and the knuckle castings are weak. I built a high-steer setup for a coiler LR axle once and I would not do it again.

The only rover swivel housing that has a 4 bolt cap is the Series rover stuff, but I have no idea if it could be made to work, and you would have to convert it to disc brakes anyways.

If you're looking for high- steer on an 80 axle I think an 80 axle housing with 40/60/mini parts from the weld-out would work best. The 80 series CV is bigger but the Mini/cruiser longfield CVs seem to be pretty bad ass.

OTT industries used to build 80 series high steer arms but they are NLA.
