I'm 4 linking up my TJ soon and was looking at options for disk brakes on my (new) 44 rear end out of a 89 Cherokee. I'm wanting to keep the Emergency brake from the factory if at all possible.

1: I found A lot of people adapt the D35 disk brakes off of a Grand Cherokee by re-drilling holes in the backing plate and caliper mounts then making custom spacers to hold the axle seals. I'm leaning against this unless its a last option as I prefer to use factory bolt on parts if i can for reliability and parts availability reasons.

2: I'm wondering if the disk brake parts off of a TJ Rubicon rear-end would bolt up to the older Cherokee style Dana 44. But i'm having trouble finding specs on the axles to see if they have the same seal diameter and backing plate bolt pattern to match up without drilling (again i'm trying to avoid this option if i have too.)

3: My third option is to do the same think except with the Dana 44 out of a grand Cherokee (aluminum housing.) But i'm still having problem finding specs to see if it will bolt up to the D44 i got.

Opinions? and if you got any part numbers from the dealership it would be a lot of help.

Oh yeah a lot of the write-ups i find come from the Pre-Rubicon era so im just hopin maybe the parts might match up.

I ran disc brakes from a grand cherokee aluminum dana 44 on my tj dana 35 for about a year. just recently i swapped in a d44 from an 87 cherokee and am in the process of making those disc brakes work with the odd bolt pattern of the d44, i ended up having buy new e brake cables but all in all it was cheaper than an aftermarket set up. i will keep ya posted on the progress.

I run crown vic discs on my xj 44. there is a good write up on jeepin.com. It was not very much work and they work great.
