: The raw math behind owning a firearm is scaring me...
Soundguy 01-17-2009, 09:18 PM Fuel for TJ for weekend - $40
Fuel for tow rig for weekend - $250
Wheeling park entry and camping fees for me and the wife- $60
Food and other crap for the weekend - $150
Even without breaking anything I'm looking at $500 for a full weekend of wheeling at a nice park in my TJ, that doesn't include the cost of the damn Jeep, toy hauler or tow rig nor does it even touch mods on the Jeep or anything that might get broken during the trip.
Towing the TJ from Houston to a decent wheeling spot - Between 3.5 and 6 hours depending on destination. That usually involves me taking Friday off and my wife taking a half day at the least so figure in that lost income as well.
Compared to spending an entire weekend at a firing range wheeling is a VERY expensive hobby. There's a nice range 10 miles from my house and I could spend a couple hours there every Saturday and Sunday and never come close to matching a weekend of wheeling. Hell I could buy a new gun every couple months with that I spend wheeling.
 I hope you fawkers are happy. :flipoff2:
animator 01-17-2009, 09:24 PM Guns are the main reason my truck hasn't been wheeled in 2 years.
Just wait till you discover building your own firearms at home... :D
bigun 01-17-2009, 09:24 PM Start reloading your own ammo and save even more
Codyy 01-17-2009, 09:27 PM Shit, I thought bikes were expensive.

I really don't know shit about building or assembling weapons, I bet I know more about teaching someone Chinese. I just spent the last hour figuring out how to field clean and reassemble my never been fired XDM 40 sitting at my kitchen table. I don't even own ammo for it.
In all honesty, my wife doesn't really enjoy wheeling but comes along just for the hell of it... I really think she's going to enjoy a trip to the firing range more than rock crawling. We spent the morning at the gun show and she was having a blast just checking out the small hammerless .38s for conceal and carry. She even signed us up for the CHL class on Valentines day.

Oh, heck, you don't NEED to know anything....these knuckleheads will have you trained and building before you know what has occurred...
Pt_Ranger_V8 01-17-2009, 09:49 PM Why woudl you have to pay to wheel? That's just absurd.
I agree with you on the cost of fuel though. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I could blow $500 in ammo in a weekend with no problem

Texas = no public lands = pay to wheel
It sucks, but then again its alot harder for the government to close down a private ranch than public land.
As for the wheeling versus guns, I sold my 4runner about 6 months ago. I was pissed at it, had no place close to Houston to store it, and gas prices were skyrocketing. I paid off my credit card debts, went on a drinking trip to Amsterdam and Scotland, and have bought 9 new guns, most of them evil and black. At this time I haven't regretted selling the 4runner one bit. That said, I'm finally looking into buying a house, and when I do I may start building a new budget buggy just to give me something to do

I broke down in July 07 :(
TNToy 01-18-2009, 07:42 AM You live in texas. It's absolutely drowning in clubs that shoot IPDA and USPSA matches. Get sucked in like I did. It's half the price of a weekend spent wheeling, and IMO, it's more fun.
ItsaCJ6 01-18-2009, 08:58 AM It's obviously too late.....

Seriously? Rack the slide back. Flip the forward lever up on the left side of the gun. Grab the slide and control it as it comes forward and it will slide right off.

EDIT: I see now that you already figured it out... no more posting before coffee for me...:emb:

:shaking:
I have been looking at 3 gun matches and the pistola shooting too.....one of my friends I met at GA meetings (Gunaholics Anonymous) has been hounding me.....a new hobby on the horizon.
I've even thought about selling my Scout II..... I never use it.....and an auto weapon would be sooooo cool.....
ZjSteveO 01-18-2009, 10:46 AM I quit smoking and drinking to pay for my gun habit.

Best fun with the kids.... .22 Damn you can plink away all day for $5 in ammo. Cost more to drive out to the range. :flipoff2:

It only took me 10 minutes. I'll admit, I did have to have Trevor swing the take-down lever for me because it hurt my wittle girl finger. :p
Firearms are expensive when you don't wheel. Srsly. I'm not allowed to wheel on Dr's orders until this freaking accident claim is settled. I haven't told my therapist I've started shooting.
