Passenger side required a little more ingenius method to fasten it.
Four bolts and the seats are out if you need to access the gas tank.

i see alot of cruisers with the dual center hoops and personally i think it makes it look like too much. granted the extra hoop will help in the strength dept but like i said it just looks like to much for my personal taste. anyway just my op.

i do like the way you did the seat bars. nice and easy to remove. pretty slick :D

Answering several ??? at once,
They are 35" Boggers and he hates em, no side bite....

Don't know if a hardtop will fit, he don't own one, the soft top clears OK.

High 5, looks are not the objective on this truck, sure, we hope, and are happy that it is nice looking, but, safety is primary.

The seat designs are Josh, my son, he never ceases to amaze me at some of his stuff, one moment he's pondering, then it's built.

That's a pretty sweet looking rig. Once again I would have laughed if someone told me about a purple cruiser but that sucker looks sweet. Do you have any pics of the full rig?:D

Butch

so what you are saying is single center hooped cages are unsafe?

i just think there is too much tubing there. not only does it start looking like a jungle gym on top of a rig but it adds more unneccessary weight. that weight is up hight too and that does not help the center of gravety. anyway this is just my op so take it for what it is worth.....absolutely nothing :D

Nice Beefy Cage.

Did you fabricate the clamps for the seat frame tubing?

I never said single hoop cages are not safe.....
Some folks dig the overkill aspect of this, Mace's and Nolen's cages.
Some don't...

Weight.....sure it's heavier, the extra bar and related supports can't be over 40 lbs.

Yes, Josh fabbed the clamps that hold the seat frames on......

Nice work!

Couple of figures I had jotted down:
2" 0.120" wall.... 2.73 pounds/ft
2" 0.095" wall.... 2.19 pounds/ft

Damn, you're good... about 40# seems on the money! :p

So when are you sending Josh, Kristie, and Andi down here to build my shop so I can get back to working on the cruiser! I know all three of them would have it framed, sided, roofed, wired, and plumbed in less than a day.... unless we tie both of their hands behind their backs... then two days! Meanwhile I should be finished by 2004.... :)

I rode with Bob Laus during Cruise Moab 2000. He had a very purple FJ40 called the "Purple Nurple". Great guy, think he moved from Colorado to Florida after that. Talk about going from wheeling heaven to hell! :(

the extra hoop? looks good mainly......heaps of steel in that though

just out of curiosity....any reason the passenger and drivers sides differed? fuel filler or something?

looks sweet

What size tubing do you guys use for your cages? I should be placing my order for steel monday. I was told 13/4" .95 wall D.O.M. Probably gonna copy the seat brackets as i still have a stock bench and just acquired some 4runner seats free.

If your gonna use 1.75" then I would use .120 and you may want to try Stock Car Steel & Al. in Mooresville for tubing.

Figure your cruiser, gear, and YOU will weigh closer to 5000#, so that tubing size is a little small for a nasty roll (flopping on the side doesn't count... getting 40' up a rock wall, and screwing
up is when you want a real cage.

2" 0.120" Wall DOM is your best bet. Full radius bender, and a welder that is EXCELLENT at what they do. Few folks feel that is overkill, but then again they have not had a couple of friends killed when their cage failed.

2" 120 HREW is cheaper, and still should be just fine, but talk with your steel supplier. Locally I can get DOM discounted buying in larger quanities, paying cash, and knowing what I want. Supplier has to special order HREW, so the DOM ends up being a better deal. Prices do vary on supply/demand/phase of the moon.

What are you bending the tubing with? Lots of discussions here, just search for "tubing bender" and you'll find ton's on suppliers and info. I boought 1.5" and 2" dies... so of course I'll use 2" for a cage. For a small sedan (pro rally) the 1.5" will work, but that is for a 2000# vehicle.

As I said in a previous post i have no fab skills, so i'm relying on a friend who just built a really nice cage for his 4runner, to help. thats what he used. he says he cant bend any bigger than 13/4" .would .120 be enough in 13/4"

I have, or I should say, Had a purple FJ40. It was a poorly done paint job so I repainted it white to match the interior. I have a pic at http://www.angelfire.com/droid/mrrichards/FJ40a.htm
It came from Cedar City Utah last Octobler.
