Hello guys, Im new to this and this may be a stupid guestions. I have a 76 cj7 with the amc 304 th400 tranny and a Quadratrack transfer case. It has the narrow track 20 rear end etc...But ive been looking into and researching going to full width axles dana 44's/60's. The rear axle is offset to the passenger side on my jeep. All the axles ive seen for sale in my area have the pinion centered in the middle of the axle. Do I need to swap transfer cases dana 20/ dana 300 to get everything all centered to work with the new rear axle? What do i do? Thanks in advance for the help! Mike

You should not have to change the TC at all. You may need to modify the length of the driveshaft. May have to do a SYE/CV driveshaft conversion.

the dana 18 will swap right in. the dana 20 will swap with some mods. the dana 300 will swap with a lot of mod$.
good luck finding a SYE kit for the QT. they dont exist. because it already has a fixed output. duh.
you might need to run a double CV shaft if you go to a centered rear axle.
all QT waggys had offset rear 44s, if that is an option. otherwise build an offset rear axle, but it would be cheaper to change Tcases.

it is practically impossible to align an axle with a center quadratrac.
the pinion centered in the middle of the axle is bad to QT.

see this (my jeep)

then i put D60 and was perfect.

hey mike, i feel bad. you are getting some pretty shitty responses. good luck.
this is probly going to be your best option. the dana 300 is a great Tcase.

Depending on how much suspension lift you have and how you are using the jeep, KennyTJ's suggestion of a DC driveshaft might meet your needs.

Not sure how wide you want to go, but you could look at mid to late 70's Wagoneers, Cherokees, J10's and J20's. I think they came with QT offset rears from about 59" to 64" WMS. The J20's had 60's in the rear and they all have pass side D44's in the front.

to the OP...
what do you do with your CJ? why do you want full width axles?
more width: wheel spacers.
stronger axles: new Tcase or build your own axle.
or just build up the axles you have.

You should be able to run a centered rear pinion with the off-set t-case output. On FSJ's, the D20 equipped rigs use a centered output with the driveshaft running to the offset rear pinion. The only issue may be the shorter driveshaft in the little jeep.

You could also search out a D44/D60 axle combo out of a Quadratrac J20. They have an off-set FF D60. Infact, even the D20 equipped J20's of the quadratrac years ( '74? - '79) used on off-set FF D60. All of the Chero, J-truck & waggy axles of these years were off-set, as well, with some being narrower than others.

The title says "full width",If you are in southern California ,I know where a quadra-trac dana 60 is cheap. With it you relocate the spring pads and your done .

Then get a J-10 front axle and a spring outboard kit and install it and your done, plus new 8 lug wheels of coarse

If you stay with the quadra-trac ,you'll have a flatter belly ,smoother skid plate ,and a chance to put in overdrive gears in it with a new Mile marker full time/overdrive kit .

I have an '84 stick Cj 7 and I envy you with the auto trans .Your rear drive shaft is about the same length as mine and your front shaft is a CV shaft and much better then mine ,so it's a win /win for a low power ,medium duty jeep.

My friggen dana 300 t/case hangs down below the frame a good 5 or more inches and is a rock anchor ,I can't rotate it up much ,as it will hit the trans and starter ,yours is already pretty flat .

I do rock crawl , so I need the stronger t/case ,but I'd like a flat belly.

Monster, I dont drive the jeep on the road to much, I do alot of hunting and offroading when the local trails are open...I have superior one piece axle shafts and a detroit in my amc 20, 4.5 rubicon lift 33's...and its great its just way to narrow. I want to run bigger tires i just cant because its so narrow. I just want to step it up to the next level.

If you want to read more opinions than you can shake a stick at, search the suzuki forum. Samurais have offset t-cases and lots of guys use toyota centered rears.

Hey man I'm not the biggest authority on the swap you want but. if you have a quadra transfer case you can practically drop in any grand cherokee or cherokee chief Dana 44's from the 70's that had the same transfer case(quad). And these are the beefy 3" diameter tube, full width dana 44s that are in any FSJ. The only reason i know is because i pulled a full width Dana44 from a 79' Cherokee chief and I would have pulled the rear but it was off set. The bolt patter will be 6x 5.5. jsbuggy1 has some dana 44s with a rear offset in the axle classified section. You can either keep the quad transfer case and go from there or switch to a dana 300, easy to find, and get centered rear and pass side front drop. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info, I am also looking for a way to use the BW1339 for a centered D60. Sounds like the easiest and cheapest way to get past this is to swap out the BW1339 for a D300? What do others think about this?

you are going to need an adapter kit if you swap Tcases.
anyone else want to mention the old waggy axles...?

I know I will need an adapter. I was just wondering if this was the best/easiest/cost effective way?
