I saw your truck, and I've read every spec I can find on it. Tell me if what I have is right so far. HP dana 60 front, locked, chromo shafts, dana 70 rear, locked, 10 inches (or so) of lift using leaves. 514 stroker with a 4 speed and a 205 set up, 44 boggers. Am I right? And heres my question for you. I found a bronco for sale on here that has a 460, a 4 speed, 4 inch superlift, 3" body lift, 15x14 wheels, and mt baja tires. Would this be a good donor truck? Id like to use the 4" lift, the 460, and the 4 speed. Add in a 14b ff rear, a dana 60 front, both chromoed, and some cut 39.5 boggers. If you were gonna one ton a f-150 would you use leaves for a straight mud truck? Or try and keep the front coils? I know this is confusing as shit, and I apoligize if I sounded like a fucked up window licker, but any help you could provide would be great. Thanks man. Jordan

Actually, I'm using stock leaves. I basically just copied Bob Chandlers design from his first few BigFoots. The thought was, when I go to bigger axles/tires, I could throw on some soft 4" lift springs and trim my fenders and still have room for 56"s. Set up otherwise sounds right as far as the basic drivetrain goes. There are some little details that I didn't think were critical for a mud bogger/dragger when I first build it, but have since added. Specifically, I fabbed up the crossover steering out of the gate, but later added the hydro assist which has been awesome. I cavitated my pump once which resulted in some grievous breakage, now it doesn't have to work so hard. Much like I didn't think I needed a twin sticked xcase, but once I did that I fell in love with it. I twinstick everything now. The radiator in the bed I did from the start.

What you are talking about would be a good donor truck, depending on the price. As far as using the coils over the leaves, its just a straight mud truck so use whatevers easiest for you. Where people go wrong with leaves is they get stiff, highly arched springs for lift and they flex for piss.

Yeah diddo on the spring stiffness, you need to have some flex in order to keep control in the rough pitts, as well as keep all tires on the ground at all times.

Yup. Do a little research on how Bob Chandler built his original Bigfoots. I had twofold reasons for going this route, one being that it was cheap and easy while still yielding pretty good performance. The other reason, is that if/when I wanted to put some ginormous tires and rockwells under it all I'd have to do is get some mild lift springs and trim my fenders.

Granted, if I were doing it today I'd just build a link system. Ten years ago, however, if somebody was building a giant mud truck they were usually using lift blocks and stiff ass banana springs......taking inspiration from Chandler seemed to make sense.
