: 52" spring?

K10 350/465/205/14ff/60 on 40's mostly trail, crawlin, go fast, non daily driver.
Removing the 6" lift springs. I'm installing in the front, a used set of stock 6 leaf, 52" spring packs. Reason for this is to lower the truck, more flexy springs and to push the front axle forward 1 3/4".
They sit flat at ride height, 52" along the main leaf. With no real world suspension cycling, I get about 1" up travel, 7 1/2"- 8" down. I thought I would have more uptravel from ride height?
I have done a lot of research, here, and on ck5 and know that no single answer fill fit. I see most people limit their up travel around 4". I assume that they still have some arch to their springs at ride height?

How much negative arch will a stock leaf pack survive, when pushed into that negative arch under full compression (think landing)?
I don't jump very often, but want to be able to.
Should I get replacement springs? http://www.generalspringkc.com/index.php?p=catalog&parent=45&pg=1

I'm considering setting my (urethane) bump stops around 2" above ride height. I do have about 2 1/2" of clearance after that.

Any ideas on what I'm trying to ask?

I tried to compose this in a way that most newbs should, but if I left out any needed info, please ask!;)

I also want to clamp the main leaf to the second leaf, at the ends of the second leaf. This should help with axle wrap and keep the main from bending.
What clamps should be used? Haven't searched this yet. Link's?:p

I run 3 leaves plus the overload on the front of my buggy, it sits on the overload at ride height. I can only have ~2" of uptravel before the spring contacts the pitman arm (I'm running crossover and hydro assist, basically the minimum height for standard mechanical steering).

I have my bump stops set VERY low; nearly touching at ride height but they are the type that have ~1-2" of give in them (gaps, I guess). Like these. (http://www.jegs.com/i/Prothane/311/19-1311/10002/-1)

Any negative arch on a spring will kill it in a hurry.

Also, they will bend easily if the leaves aren't tied together in some way.

This is my third set of 52's, I bet it will be my last (links after this)

That's not true because some springs have a neg arch when unloaded. It's all about the degree of deflection (how far you bend the steel from where it naturaly sits with no load).

However with 52's you only want to go a couple of inches past neg arch.

Quote= They sit flat at ride height, 52" along the main leaf. With no real world suspension cycling, I get about 1" up travel, 7 1/2"- 8" down. I thought I would have more uptravel from ride height?

I work slow.
Any how, I get about 4" negative arch up travel, (from a dead flat ride height) 9" ish down travel. I have not moved my shackle hanger, yet, (stock location) with 6" shackle's. Once, again, this is not real world testing, but all the 52" inch springs I have are, well junk, the main leave's are :D bent and/or the top 2 leaves (non main leaves) have snaped the ends. Working on that problem, too. I have read a few people wish they had gone with a stiffer set of springs, instead of building their own pack, so if you look at this link, http://www.generalspringkc.com/index.php?p=catalog&parent=45&pg=1

73-87 GM K10 / K20 Pick up - 4x4 6(5/1) 2-1/2 26 x 26 2-1/8 1875 $119.99

Does anyone think that would be a good spring? Would a stiffer/lighter spring be better? I kind of want to start fresh with good springs.
Any better prices or sugestions? Cheaper springs would be good!
Not trying to pimp that site, it just has the spring capacity/weight.

What would be a good rear 56" spring capacity?
Trying to save up for a front D/S from Jesse.
Spell check own's me! :black sad:

Why would you want to be able to jump? Just curious.

Any suggestions on spring rates?
I know this should probally be moved to the newb section, but I figure with a full bodied truck I could get better info here.

LegendKiller89, when I say jump, I mean everything between bumping up a ledge, to hitting a good size whoop at speed. Think powerline road. I don't think I have ever really tried, on purpose, to get all 4 wheels off the ground. Trail, all aspects of an off road truck is the point here.

Overdosed, I've had my truck for 13 years swaped all the d/t over, rolled it, tried different springs ect. My back allready hurts! I figure that 52" springs, with the right amount of up travel, 4-6", and 8" downtravel, with o.k. compresable bumpstops, will be way better than the 47inch long, 6" lift springs that flex about 5". For the record I'm a little older than Grumpy.

I was looking at the eatonspring site, can anyone school me on the rate vs load they list, on the rears?
