D,

I've been sitting here thinking of what I'm going to say, and all I can say is 'Oh BAAAABYYYY!'.

Lots and lots to comment on, but you know what the cool shiat is anyway, and we're only seeing the tip of the iceburg I suspect.

It's not all THAT important in the grand scheme of things, but I do like the attention to detail with the front nose bar going through the wings. Very sweet.

Of course all the rest is just sick sick sick!

Salute! :flipoff2:

Ohhhhh yea...She flexes WAY passed the limit of the coil-overs now. With no binding at all. Had I pinned the upper links to the frame via a heim then I would be concernd...However I kept the stock mounting locations at the frame, and as such, the link is free to rotate 360 deg if necessary. As a matter of fact, my original intent was to use 3" polly bushes only at the front of the link...However there wasn't enough clearance to do that and mount the coil-over (it would hit the hi-steer arms)...Therefore I used those big fawkin' hiems (1" x 1.25"). It's a very free moving suspension...Now to locate the limiting straps! :flipoff2:

Not too bad, for a Land Rover :flipoff2:

Not wantin to dis it, but if you get a nudge on the front unicorn bar, and it flexes at all it will destroy the wings if it flexes at all?

Nope. Stop now and start again.

Do you want me to take this one off your hands? :-)

Thanks for the nice words! (I think:flipoff2:)

I've been running the headers now for a couple of years...Putum' on when I did the ZF swap. They are standard Headman/ceramic coated for the Buick 215. I forget the part number, but if your really interested I can send you the part number(s)...For coated and non-coated. They ran about $300 coated and $120 not.

D,

I ceramic coated the Ram's Horn exhaust headers on the crewcab hoping to keep the ambient temps down in the cab.

did you notice a difference?

I am needing to do something on the Serious One, and was thinking of ceramic coating the y-pipe and headers. I'll need the insulation in the heat down here.

Hee, hee hee! And you thought I was kidding when I was pontificating about my "plans" during the raffel/BBQ in Cruses eh?

That 'unicorn' bar isn't going anywere. The primary tubes (that go through the wings) are tied to the frame outriggers...The shocks mount to that...Then there will be a secondary support from the primary down to the frame (at the shock)...The two primaries will be tied together via a cross-over over the engine. All of the above is .120 x 1.75 DOM...Not to mention I have approx 3/8ths" cut around the wings to clear the tubes.

Besides I've been contimplateing removing the wings anyway  and building some 1.5" DOM fender wings to help narrow the beast. However, for the time being (until I do mash them) the rig will remain as Rover as I can keep her.

I didn't notice a difference because I didn't run them non-coated to begin with...And I didn't notice a difference from the cast manifolds either...Other than an increase in torque and HP (contrary to what MANY people think about headers in a rock-crawler).

If I were you I would wrap your y-pipe and such now that your in the desert. Coatings are nice, and efficient, but not as good as a quality header wrap from any number of places....Besides, at the y-pipe you'll never see it.

WOW! Very Nice Work Doug! Obviosuly words cannot describe the hard work. Had a few questions out of curiosity.

1. Like the front coilovers. Why did you choose to rake them back. Was this for fitment or does this have an advantage. It appears in the picture that you coul dhave raised the front coilovers vertically a bit and made taller lower mounts so that you could have less clearance issues at the axle? Could you have? Will you share your coliover specs in the future when you get them dialed in the way you like them?

2. What are you planning to do for a mud sheild for the inner fender wells. Sheet metal, or leave them exposed?

3. Are you going to put a front diff ocver on that. A freind just got one for his rig (tha avalanche one) and it is really nice and well made FYI. What is your pinion degree at in the front? OVer 18?

4. Are you going to go with hydraulic bumpstops when you mount those limiting straps?

5. Who made the high steer arms? Haven't seen those before.

6. Dig the center link of what appears to be a 3-link design. Is that a skit plate grinding plate welded to it??? What does the crossmember end look like? Did you use the SG unit also?

You should throw a tac weld on all of your front u-joints.
Nice touch on the bend in the trac bar/panhard rod. Love the nose guard. You outdid yourself DOUG!!!!!!! Props.

I raked them back for a little extra travel. The other driver was the length issue that you mentioned. Initially I wanted to keep the shock down on the axle tube. Because I bought 2.5" bodied shocks there wasn't enough room to swing the steering lock to lock...In the front, back is okay.

2. What are you planning to do for a mud sheild for the inner fender wells. Sheet metal, or leave them exposed?[/B]

Mud? What's that? I don't do mud. Fun? Yes. Pain in the fawking ass? YES!

3. Are you going to put a front diff ocver on that. A freind just got one for his rig (tha avalanche one) and it is really nice and well made FYI. What is your pinion degree at in the front? OVer 18?[/B]

No. That's the 1/8th thick cover and should hold up well. I plan on shaving it soon, so I didn't get the Aval. guard. Check the pics of the rear diff (previous post) and you'll see I've got one for the rear.

The pinion sits right at 15deg.

4. Are you going to go with hydraulic bumpstops when you mount those limiting straps?[/B]

Naw...I'd like them, but at $150 a pop, it's really out of the budget right now. Nice poly's will do just fine.

5. Who made the high steer arms? Haven't seen those before.[/B]

Avalanche

6. Dig the center link of what appears to be a 3-link design. Is that a skit plate grinding plate welded to it??? What does the crossmember end look like? Did you use the SG unit also?[/B]

Yes it is. The link is built with 1.5" x .25" DOM and sleeved with 1.75" x .120...I then put a piece of 1.5 x 1.5 x 1/8th angle on the bottom to prevent (make sure) it will never bend. There is a 1 x 1.25" hiem at the diff, and a 3" x 3/4" JJ at the x-member. The x-member is 3/16ths x 3" box with 3/8ths mounting tabs...It also hangs about 2" lower than stock to help facilitate clearing a 1350 double cardon drive shaft.

You should throw a tac weld on all of your front u-joints. [/B]

Yea, I might. I dont' hear of 60 u-joint caps popping all that often...Especially with a whopping 160hp! :(
