I think I've been to every jambo for the last 4 years, no way I'm skipping 5 in a row.
BTW, I'm absolutely POSITIVE that everyone who's posting up in here cares about future jambos to come and has sent a letter in using the letter generator. If you haven't, be sure and do so. It's more important than you think, and our current # of letters is pretty poor. Link in my sig, and I have comment forms that you can send in to Marines that I can email upon request (just as important) - just send me a PM and I will give you one. Let's keep JV open:smokin: See you all out there...
Im4yotas 01-22-2009, 02:01 AM I'm pretty sure I can talk the team into leading a trail again this year as long as we're not too beat up from KOH, just don't put us with the JK's:flipoff2:

A tank on the trails would just mean a REALLY heavy bitch to pull out when it gets stuck. THAT'D be a photo for sure.:smokin:
And the Hammers is NOT on 29 Palms Marine base, and hopefully it never will be (it's pretty close though)

He is actually talking about our friend we call Tank to lead the trails. He was recently injured but plans to be at the event.
When I left the Hammers on January 19th, I was behind 5 Military Tanks, real ones with guys on top with guns. I took pictures. Better get those letters and petitions signed just in case.

We were probably stuck behind the same 'tanks,' if you mean coming back from lakebed mid Sunday after the FOJV meeting.
Tank reference was completely over my head, but hope he feels well enough to get out there...

The tanks I saw were on a Monday around 2

We saw LAVs Sunday afternoon, maybe 15 of them headed north on the 247. If you ever saw an actual tank headed down a highway, you had better get to your guns, cause the "shit has hit the fan"!
And back on topic: I will be at the Jambo.:)

They have been a big hassle for me after KOH , charging me for a windsheld that was broken when I picked up the RV.Luckly I took pics before I took the RV but its been a big fucken headache.
They also charged me twice for insurance too.
I have been fighting with them to get my over charges of $700 back.
Have a good times guys , I wont be able to make this year.

I went to tinbenders.org to try to register for the Jambo but in order to so you have to list a rig, which we won't have, and select a trail. We want to participate in the raffle and dinner, so can we just pay the $50 when we get there? I want to make sure even though we might not be able to register on-line, there will be enough food for us to eat dinner. Or is there another way we should try to register early?

I want to make sure even though we might not be able to register on-line, there will be enough food for us to eat dinner. Or is there another way we should try to register early?
What Air Ride said about the trail. As Far a rig just put your brand of shoe and size.:laughing: Thanks for the support!
dglilbit 03-23-2009, 09:36 AM Just pic the SUV run if you don't have a rig.
Okay, thanks!

slravene 04-01-2009, 11:06 AM cross posted this from the toyota section:
me and two buddies are coming all the way out there from Charlotte, NC just for this event. We are flying out on thursday and coming out there that night. Some of the RockBrawler crowd (not sure if they are members of the club, but they are off of their board) have graciously offered us seats for the weekend. We still need one seat however (we have two, and need one more) to ride. We bring beer.
What is the weather like out there at night? Will we be fine sleeping without sleeping bags? Anyone have a tent we can borrow for the weekend? (sorry we are so needy, lol...just dont have much room to pack on the plane). Is there anywhere near there to shower? We have to leave LATE night saturday to catch the early flight back east on sunday morning and will need to catch showers somewhere (Truck stop? Pay someone to shower in their RV?) before we get on the plane. Hopefully we wont miss any big partying on late saturday night....lol.
Im really looking forward to this trip, ive never been out to the hammers before and figured this would be a good opportunity to go. Wish I could take my rig out there but its just too far to make it for the weekend.
Looking forward to it.

VERY Cool!!! Glad you guys are coming out!! ;)
We'll probably have a board posted at/or near the registration table with "Looking for a seat" & "Seats Available" lists going. So chances are you can find someone to ride with ;)
Weather... whether it be dead of winter or the middle of summer.. you'll need to be prepared for just about everything. My advice is bring at least one of each ~ shorts, long pants, long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, jacket. If it gets cold at night, you'll want layers. During the day it'll be warm so have those short sleeves handy ;)
As far as showers... No :( unless you guys get a hotel room nearby, there are no shower facilities on or near the lakebed. I'm not sure what airport you're flying into and what nearby truck stops have to offer as far as cleaning up... maybe someone else can answer that ;)
pirategirl 04-01-2009, 01:17 PM wonder what trail i will be on? prolly the ones with the tacos:laughing:

OK good deal on the seats thing.
The weather...that makes sense. I figured the clothing thing, im more worried about the sleeping, since we dont have a tent (unless we bring one on the plane with us) and not much room for sleeping bags. Ill bring a couple of blankets or something. Or maybe hit up a walmart after we land.
We are flying in and out of LAX. We fly in on Thursday morning and fly out on sunday morning.

Most of us have been out there for several days and are running out of water or our tanks are full by Saturday night. You can stop at one of the truck stops in Ontario on the way to LAX for a shower if need be.
A seat should not be a problem.

Thats what I figured. Truck stop is no problem. Itll be worth it for one of the best wheeling weekends you can have.
Anyone have any idea where/which truck stop on the way to LAX is the best?

RockRanger 04-04-2009, 05:00 PM Couple of questions?
Is there a tech inspection before the run with a list of requirements? If so what is it. I couldnt find one on the website.
I see everything is split by tire size. I have 315 75 16. Closer to a 35 then a 33 but still a bit under 35. Is that fine for doing the 35" tire trails. I have ran claw and afershock in the past. We are thinking about doing jack, sledge, outerlimts, or sun bonnet. This is a ranger locked front rear solid axle with duel cases and a winch. Body damage isnt much of a concern.

Hyena 04-04-2009, 05:17 PM no real tech inspection. and i would call a 315 a 35 any day.

Sounds like your fine, the tire size and equipment is just a guide line. Your trail leader will make the final call. If he thinks you will be a trail tampon he may suggest another trail.

Hard to answer that, some are already full, some have no one on them. You can go to our site and check to see how many spots are available for each run and who is on them.

superman180 04-08-2009, 03:21 PM I post this question with a full expectation of getting flamed.:flipoff2:
So this Jamboree is a fundraiser/clean up effort of the Hammers OHV area. I would love to come and participate in this event however, if I can manage to get my broke ass out there it will be on a shoestring budget to say the least and to come-up with the 50.00 dollars on top of gas and food just may not be in the cards for me this year.:shaking: So my question is this, what is the position of the sponsors for this event if you have folks that want to come out and help with the clean up effort but can’t afford the entry fee? And obviously they would not be included in the dinner or raffle.
Thanks.

It's an open desert we can not and would not stop anyone from coming out. If you make it out, come see the people at the registration desk and tell them what you would like to do. I'm sure we will have a solution, you are not the only person in this boat this year. By the way it's only $40 if you pre register.:flipoff2:

I don't know Mike, I'm still confused. We've known about this since December when Lance posted it as "First annual JKOwners run" on JKO and never mentioned signing up. On the 6th page of that thread a vendor posted a link to the Benders site recommending we sign up to pick a run. So I don't know what's going on. Is it free for JKO members? Lance mentioned raffles and refreshments but never said anything about signing up. I'm in the same boat as you financially and I'll be going to hang out, camp, and spot for my friends from JKO but don't plan on participating in the runs, raffle, dinner, or anything. Everywhere I go I'm 100% self sufficient anyway. If I sell any of my junk or get some $$$ for my B-Day I'll sign up, make a donation, or at least buy a shirt if they have 4X :flipoff2:

The Tin Bender Jamboree is an organized pay event. We charge $40 per vehicle pre register $50 on site.
We set up runs and provide trail leaders and helpers for each run. With each payed entry you get to choose a trail run, two meal tickets for a BBQ dinner we host & one raffle ticket. The last two years we have had a Pirate 4x4 vendor as the title sponsor to help us put on this great event.
This years title sponsor is Poly Performance. Leah from Poly has been rallying vendors for donations for our raffle. She has amassed a large amount of prizes to be given away at the raffle.
All money raised, minus expenses (food, insurance, permit etc.)gets donated to help keep trails open.
You may want to ask Lance to find out what this is? "First annual JKOwners run" He may have something else up his sleeve?
We will not have 4x shirts on the lake bed, we print small - 2x only(maybe a few 3x). I wear a 3x and order them ahead of time.
If you want a shirt in 4x you will need to pm Air Ride on here and ask him if he can get them.
Billy_Goat 04-08-2009, 09:25 PM Thanks for the info. I pretty much knew what the Tin Benders Jambo was but don't know how the JKO guys fit into it. I'm sure it will all work out.

I consider Backdoor an obstacle not a trail. Backdoor usually has three outcomes You make the first fall and walk the other couple of hundred yards to the bail out. You break and head back to camp, or you flop hard and head back to camp.
Every trail out there can be tough if you choose to take the optionals or pretty easy if you stay on the beaten path so to speak. Sledge is driven by Jeeps on 35's all the time but there are optionals that only a built linked rig will make.
Upper Bender Alley would be the least driven trail out there, it has only been completed unassisted by one person, EZ Rick.
Spooner Canyon was a fun trail and has a bunch of optionals yet to be tried.
superman180 04-14-2009, 08:29 PM we are ordering food for saturday dinner. if you are going to preregister please do it this week as we need a head count for the food order.
thanks,
rob
Well it looks like I will have the funds to preregister after all, hopefully tomorrow. :grinpimp:
What trail should I be choosing? My 4runner is equipped as follows.
33" BFG mud tires,
ARB lockers front and rear with 4:88 gearing,
Marlin 4.7 tcase gears,
Rock sliders.
Thanks,
Can't wait to get out there:D
_peteyg 04-14-2009, 08:34 PM About 8 years ago I did Aftershock on 33's, locked front and rear. It was work, though.
I wouldn't run Sledge on 33's on a bet unless I was in maybe a Sammy. Clawhammer, maybe.

I'd leave Backdoor for the last day unless your brining lots of spare parts. Allot of guys have ruined there weekend by hitting backdoor first.
superman180 04-18-2009, 05:49 PM Well I pre registered thru the JKO site link because it had the option to pay at the event. I could not find this option on the Tinbenders site, probably because I R dumb. Anyway I signed up for claw and will probably check it out on Friday to decide if I need to change my run choice for Saturday. I can't wait for next weekend it will be the first wheeling trip I have been on in over a year.:p
I will be there in this and look forward to metting some of the folks from the PBB. I have been here since 06 and it would be nice to put some faces with the names.

You can do it either way (if you don't have a rig and wanted to participate in the raffle as well as the dinner you can register.)
Ummm.....did that make any sense?

In other words, you can buy extra raffle tickets for $50 ea. :D
A buddy of mine just bought (yesterday) a brand new JK Rubicon Unlimited. I'm trying to talk him into bringing it and and running the SUV run. I dunno if they'd let him on the FJ run. He's not new to wheeling, but he doesn't want to hurt the JK while it still has paper plates.:p
Esteban86K5 04-23-2009, 10:25 AM Makes perfect sense. We have a rig that seats 4 so I wanted to make sure we didn't have to fork out $200 to run a trail.
RockJeep92504 04-23-2009, 03:18 PM Just drove through apple valley and saw about 6 rigs in the food for less parking lot. Passed another toy buggy headed out there.
RamAirZ 04-23-2009, 10:31 PM Damn gonna have to miss it anyways. Work just gave me a big project :( Oh well making money for more truck parts is always a plus lol
