I did a search and nothing interesting came up. After knowing how much i owe in student loans it looks like SFA and tranny swap wont be happening for another few years now. I'm just wondering what you guys think on me running a nvg3500 tran with 38" tires on my 89 chev half ton. I have 3.42 gears now but im swapping to 4.88's this summer. I wont be doing any wheeling until I get my gears so it will be a street queen until then. I only drive it about 2-3 times a week.

The tranny is probably the least of you worries if you are still running the stock axles...

x2 On the axles, But 4.88s are good for 38s.

Even on the streets with stock tires the rear end likes to go Boom. I run a 89 Chevy that was converted to 1ton IFS diffs front and rear and the front still doesnt like 36"s.

ive seen 46s/49s ran on 1/2ton axles just dont go offroad
i know people that mud the hell out of blazers running 39s 38s 35 37s and rarely do they break a rear axle and if they do o well we can get them for around 50 a peice if all else fells get 6 lug 14bolt rearend try lookin at pull a part or some other yard
i ran 39s on my ifs does ok just dont turn it a lay on the gas
