I am not sure on HR495. The ATF and others have been claiming that the "Weapon of choice" for the drug cartels is the "Assualt weapon"

Only mentions the ATF, not the BP. Authorizes the AG to hire more agents.

Not syaing the bill is a bad thing, but....

If the ATF favor it, its's a sure bet that the citizen loses.

update from my Rep on HR 197

Introduced by Representative Cliff Stearns (R-FL) on January 6, 2009, H.R. 197, the "National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009," would allow an individual with a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in one state to carry a concealed weapon in another state so long as the individual complies with Federal law and the laws of the state which they are in. This legislation is currently pending before the House Committee on the Judiciary, where it awaits further consideration. Should H.R. 197 come to the House floor for a vote, I will support it.

how is this any different than what is in place now? Dont certain states do reciprocity with other states? why do we need more legislation on this? i believe it should be a states rights issue.

not saying its a bad thing, but less government is better in my opinion...

I'm not opposed to states rights. Now the states do decide if your ok or not. But many states impose their standards on other states to accept reciprocity.

Why am I good here. But not a mile away because you have a different training standard and don't consider me legal. If I'm legal here, I should be legal everywhere.
That's how it works with a drivers license.
