I borrowed a friends jeep for a family vacation and little problem developed. The Jeep has had frame cracks in the general area before, but never this bad. How would you guys suggest to fix it.
Here are a couple of pics.

"V" groove it, weld it, grind it smooth, plate it.

yowch...
what part of the frame is this, looks like maybe the LF frame horn section? if so i would just cut off that whole section of frame forward of the crack and fab a new horn for it. if it has happened before it will happen again IMO, dont half ass something like your frame...

9V, if you look in the second pic you can see that the crack is right in front of the stock sway bar bracket. So, if is right behind the front cross member and steering box. You can also see in one of the pics the plate that has been welded there before to stop a earlier crack. I drilled a hole to stop it, but then I found the rest of the cracks. I wish that I could just find a new frame, but like I said, this isn't my jeep and I can't afford to buy him a new one. I can weld, and I am pretty good at fabricating.

Anybody else have some ideas?
well as mentioned before: v groove it. weld it. grind it smooth. then put some doublers over it. then look at the steering box mount and reinforce it from the other frame side. i would guess the cracks are caused by the steering box stresses. take a good look at the spring hanger area on the same side for damage as this is also a jeep thing and happens a lot. if you are a good fabricator cut it off and replace it with some 2X4 tube. not that hard to do and will result in a permanent fix vice one that will most likely crack again.

Thanks guys, I guess I will just have to follow your advice and see how it turns out. I just hope that my friend is not upset with me. I am sure that he won't be, since he has several other vehicles, but you can never be sure. Thomas
