: Front 60 Question
YOTAon40s 01-23-2009, 12:11 AM Well, I Finally Sold My Puny Toy Axles And Am Stepping Up To One Tons. I Picked Up A Front 60 Out Of An Early 80's Dually, I Was Looking Into High Steer Arms Today And I Remembered That There Are Certain D44's That Do NOT Have Flat top Knuckles. My Question Is: Are All 60's Flat Tops? Tried Searching The FAQ's So If I missed That Shit In There, Flame Away :flipoff2: Thanks In Advance.
Corey Young 01-23-2009, 12:18 AM My Question Is: Are All 60's Flat Tops
No, ball joint 60s- newer Dodge and Ford are not "flat tops".
Corey Young 01-23-2009, 12:19 AM All Chevy Dana 60 fronts will have flat top knuckles with 4 bolts.
trkklr77 01-23-2009, 12:41 AM all king pin, open knuck d60/d70 are the same inreguards to arms.
YOTAon40s 01-23-2009, 12:47 AM Sweet. Thanks For The Info Guys, I Appreciate It :smokin:
gr8pumkin 01-23-2009, 01:05 AM Get Wfo concepts high steer arms by far the best on the market and it also moves the tie rod behind the axle.
trkklr77 01-23-2009, 01:08 AM i like ord's, no secodary cap, no spacer, retain stock spring and assembly. mhe.
MaXXis85 01-23-2009, 09:57 AM Parts Mike springless arms FTW. Look at them.
YOTAon40s 01-23-2009, 01:11 PM Right On Guys, Thanks
EDIT: What ARe The Pro's And Con's Of Having A Springless Arm?
GMCTruxrule 01-23-2009, 01:13 PM Parts Mike arms....lol....my friend installed them on his 60, forgot to set the preload on the adjuster, and then called me up complaining about having HORRIBLE death wobble...and I asked him if he had set the preload.
Turned out that he hadn't.
WildWilly4x4 01-23-2009, 05:35 PM X2 on the Offroad Design arms, well worth the $. I have 3 sets of them in my fleet
YOTAon40s 01-23-2009, 09:33 PM What Are The Pro's And Con's Of Having A Springless Arm?
trkklr77 01-23-2009, 09:42 PM no spring is less parts to wear.
the springs are keep pre load on the bushings and bearings, keeps some what consistant presure as the parts wear. a no spring system you have to preload by hand with shims or adjuster screw.
i dont see the NEED for the no spring system but they definately look cleaner.

I See. So When Swapping In High Steer Arms You Have To Re-Set The Preload, Correct? Or Am I Lost?
GMCTruxrule 01-23-2009, 11:49 PM You have to set the preload after the install and I can't remember what the specs are.
PM Roadwarriorsvt and ask him. He did it on his 60.
trkklr77 01-24-2009, 12:00 AM dead on, then after you put some time on them youll will have to do it again, and so on.
the spring will eventually lose height and presure but no muss no fuss system for 10-20 years, depending of coarse.
YOTAon40s 01-24-2009, 01:31 AM Sweet, You Guys Are Really Helping me Out I Appreciate It. So looks Like I'm Going Crossover For Now, Untill I Have The Funds To Buy My Full Hydro Set Up, So I Will only Be Buying The Passanger Arm. So I Pretty Much Have To Remove The Cap (Depending On Which Arms I Pick Up), And Then Install The Arm. But When The Hell Do I Set The Prelode? And Excuse The Retarded Fawkin Question But What the Hell IS The Prelode? And How Do I Set It? I Will PM "Roadwarriorsvt" For The Specs, But If You Guys Can Help Me Out With The Above Questions That Would Be Great!! Thanks Again For All The Help Guys
trkklr77 01-24-2009, 02:11 AM that why i like the ord spring arms;)
trkklr77 01-24-2009, 02:12 AM pre load is the presure on the lower bearing and the upper bushing, without it you knuckle would flop all around and not behave.
noface 01-24-2009, 11:06 AM get a traditional set of high steer arms and you won't have to worry about pre-load. Use the stock springs, or get a kingpin rebuild kit w/new springs, bushings, and bearings....
If it's this complicated, you might be better off paying someone to do it.
gawd.....!!!
MaXXis85 01-24-2009, 12:17 PM Yotaon40's. My buddy Bggrnchvy has the springless arm aswell as another buddy on gmfullsize has them. Lemme find his thread so i can link the post when the springless arms were installed. It is in bggrn's front 4 lnk thread o pirate aswell.
IMHO the springless arms keep an constant preload on the kingpin bushings as where springs fatigue over time. They are Really simple to install and they are a neat/clean setup. If I were to have a D60 I will purchase them.
