OK... I've been surfing the archives using the search and came up with a few good pointers in the last 2 hours or so... but need a little more assistance.

I have finally tweaked out my 44's and it's time for an upgrade....go figure... it was only a matter of time and terrain.

I have read that with the 14/60 combo a 15" wheel with 3.5" backspacing will work with 'grinding' on the front calipers... just how much will need to come off the calipers up front... and nothing has been said of the rear 14FF. Will the 8 lug 15x10's fit the rear with the drums? I will do a disk conversion later, but need to get the 14 FF installed and rolling first.

thanks for the input....

Yes, that wheel will fit over the rear brakes on a 14 Bolt. Yes, you will have to grind a bit on the front calipers and brackets.

This is exactly how much you have to grind off the front calipers to fit 3.5" backspaced 15" wheels.

Thanks.... the pic is EXACTLY what I wanted to see for the front....wasn't sure about the rear, but now I am........ not sure if I want to grind all that off the calipers...

With 2.5" BS... is there any strength issues to worry running 38's

It was recommended to run the Eaton wheels... any other wheel I can get with the 2.5" BS on a custom order or straight off a shelf like the black rockcrawlers?

thanks again...

Never had a problem. Im running 44" boggers with 625 HP. I Run rubicon all the time and other various trails. A few years ago I had a set of 3.5" bs rims so I ground my calipers And a week after grinding them one busted on me while comming to a stop at a stop light. It almost caused a serious accident in town. So I did it right after that. My buddy 89blazer has 40" boggers and 2.5" bs with a 44 and went through rubicon 4th of july with me this year and did not break. You can buy them on line at 4wheeleparts, black or chrome for like $48 appiece. And if you buy online there is no shipping which saves a lot.

If it's a Ford D60 front you can get the clipers from '82 and it's a ton less grinding than what's shown in the picture (different cast for the caliper)

If you are trying to keep the overall width down, you can run Hummer wheels. 1.5" spacers at the front will ensure you clear the steering. An added benefit is beadlocks at both sides.

For trail running I'd be concerned about ending up too wide w/ full width axles, 2.5" BS and a wide wheel/tire. Just my 2 cents.

I got the Black 15x10 rock crawler 8 lug rims from 4Wparts with the 2 3/4 BS on the rim. On the 60 front no grinding needed and with my disc conv. on my rear 14 bolt I had no grinding to do either......running 35 boggers now but have 44's also..... :D :D

Thanks for all the input.... the reason I am going with 15" wheels is I just got 38x15.50 PJ Dirt Grips in Feb of this years and have less than 500 miles on them.. the tires are AWESOME and are very good use in all terrain.

Thanks for the info on ther broken caliper... I was keeping that in the back of my mind as to how weak the grinding would make it...

the D60 and 14FF are out of a Military P/U, The width is really not an issue, just clearancing for the rims....

Since I run a 78 Waggie (Full size).... and 14" of total lift... the wider I stand the lower my COG becomes.... this is a good thing

I just got back from Ouray, Co for the Full Size Jeep Invasion....having such a tall 4x4 does have it's advantages, but not in the mountains of Colorado!!!! It did extremely well for being WAY out of it's element of the high desert region...

I looked at 4 wheel parts online, and they only list 16" in the Rockcrawlers in 8 lug.... do I have to call to get them?

I guess the Eaton Wheels seems the best logical right now at National Tire ....for 15x10 with 2.5" BS in 8 lug are like $110

They are not the Rockcrawler you are used to seeing. BUT, they are made by Rockcrawler.

I'm waiting to see one of the first prototype Allied 15" x 9" eight lug beadlocks with a 4" backspace so my 60's front tires will pivot instead of swing when turning.
I'll post pics when and if they are ever delivered ... :grinpimp:

The question is, do they clear the disc calipers w/o grinding?

Yep, Ian. That's the big question ...
Gonna install a WMS 15" Rim Disc Kit redrilled for an 8 lug Ford RR 60 ... and then we'll BOTH know that answer as soon as I try the Allieds (if they are ever made) on for size.
If it works, the plan is get another low profile setup to work on a RR60 with D70 spindles with the same 4" backspace rims.
Or if they won't go on the rear due to caliper clearance I suppose the rears could have a shallower back space.
In either case, I'm waiting on the rims before doing any axel tube cutting.
