I cant wait, and cograds on the fish.

I fish a lot of small trout lakes in central VT and sometimes get over to Lake Champlain. All of my pics above are from Wyoming, Pathfinder Res. and lake Alcova.

For now while I'm in Wyoming I have a 6" hand auger. At home in Vermont I have a new Strikemaster 2hp 8" power auger, that thing rips through the ice.

The worst part about it is I have done it by hand before. When I was a little kid my Dad would drill his 5 and then 10 or even 15 for us kids (allowed 5 holes each) No idea how he did it.

trkklr77: Those are artic char in the summer they are a brown color. The ice depth just depends on the lake your fishing alot of lakes are around 42-46" right now, Long lake up north though is in a valley and the wind comes down the lake so it is barren of any snow that would insulate it from the cold and with the pressure from the wind pushing down on it the ice just gets that much thicker. The last parts of the lakes to ice out in the spring time are always the roads.

Ya i think ive drilled about 50 holes a year with it, over the past three years, we walk about 1/3 mile to get to our spot with a average of two feet or snow, so the extra weight of a power auger hasn't really justified it yet. The ice in those pics is about 3ft thick, with the auger extended all the way it barley got through..Ya that's a 8'' auger, i actually need a 10'' one cause ive hooked a couple macks that i couldn't get through the holes :( ... Thanks :D

Ya with shap blades it will cut through a foot of solid ice in a few econds but if it's dull you can forget it, i have spent 30-40 minutes cutting one hole :( .. Ever since then i make certian my blades are sharp and carry a spare set with me :)
