So ignore this part and see the part at the bottom in post 19... this is the problem I have now, derrrr.... :)

Oh and for what it's worth it's a 350, V8, auto, a/c, etc... if you need mo' info, just ask.

what are you doing, putting another cleaner on or what? I believe it goes to your dist. for you vacuum advance.

I had the carb rebuilt. So the whole thing had to come off. Just putting it all back on. What a bunch of crap attached to that thing. I took pictures of the before, I was able to figure all the rest out but this one. Figures. I'll go check the dist cap and see if there is something coming off of it.

Edit: I'm not even sure where both of those hoses go to at this point. I assumed I figured out the one on the right, but I could be wrong. So if anyone can help, please do before I go :rasta:.

i believe that one on the right (looking at the pic) goes to your vacuum advance on the dist. I had a c 30 with a 454 with all the smog crap and i removed a bunch of it when i put on a k&n air cleaner. It had the same shit, but i could block off a bunch but you will want your vacuum advance still hooked up.

Okay, so the hose on the right on the air cleaner, I had it connected to where I circled below. The other picture is my set up so anyone can point me to where to look for where to attach the other (left) hose, that'd be great!

go here and choose your engine, trans and carburation,, i think the line you need is at the top of the diagram between the the air cleaner and the dist and other connections

X2, ALL-DATA shows that as an "EFE/DIST. THERMAL VALVE".
( I believe, drawing is not real clear )

You still have the vacume diagram sticker on the core support? That was the biggest help putting all the junk back on my 81.

Glad to see you still got that thing,I thought you got rid of it :D

Gonna bring it to Blazerfest this summer? :D

What, where, & when is Blazerfest??

Nope, I don't have that sticker. I got everything else back on, I got the check engine to stay off too, which made my day. Now I just have this thing and some other little stupid issues to figure out. Why is nothing ever easy?

As for Blazerfest, doubt it. I never felt very welcome in that "club" to be honest. I'm not mad or anything, guess I never really hit it off or something? Oh well.

What is a "check engine light"? I do not know of these things of which you speak...lol

The vacuum advance for the distributor is timed manifold vacuum, possibly off the carb or the manifold. Not from that "thing" in the pick.

pretty hard to get "timed vacuum" off the manifold

Whoa, I forgot you were still around! :D

I searched around the engine again this morning, but I cannot find where it attaches for anything. It's probably so simple it's going to be embarrassing when I find it. :emb:

It runs okay without it on there from what I can tell. However I am smogging this week and don't want to have a little reason like this cause me to fail. Why I am going nuts trying to figure it all out.

Steph,

It looks like you may have the early fuel evaporation thermal vacuum swith (EFE TVS) connected to the secondary vacuum break (SEC VAC BRK). In fact I don't even see your EFE, but it could be cut off in the picture. It's a valve on the passenger side between the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe.

I believe you need to unplug the line you have going to the SEC VAC BRK, put that to the EFE, and run a line from your unknown air cleaner port to the SEC VAC BRK. I can edit your picture if needed. I'm also running back and forth between Davis and Sac next week if you want me to stop by.

Edit: Your EFE will look like:

Let me know if you have one and where the line from it goes.

take it all off,put in a 4 pin module into the hei,cap all vac lines and run the dist advance to the front of the carb at the lower right port(pass side).keep your vac booster line on,and keep your trans modulator vac line on.bob's your uncle,go drink some beer and do some wheelin.

I must be completely retarded because I have taken this thing apart and searched a few times and looked at a few charts, yet I cannot find where this thing attaches? If you have it, yeah please share it, because I am going nuts. :rasta: Thanks.

Edit, I have headers on my truck. They are the CARB legal Edelbrock ones, and my exhaust was totally redone in order to fit them for what it's worth.

Edit again, Mothfockle! I found what you're referring too, but the leftover hose I have clearly doesn't mount up to that, so ahhhh something is crossed up. Guess I get to start all over again. I don't what the deal is with this set up, but it's really got more hoses on it then most of the charts I am finding are showing.

Okay, figure it out, the hose I need runs between these two items. I have been to Napa, Kragen and Vatozone and none of them stock this item more of less even got wtf I was talking about. I had to bring my camera in with the pictures and my manual to show them. The dealer told me SOL when I went and saw them. Said my truck was too old for them to be able to help me, gee thanks. So with that being said, where on earth do I get this part?

You don't need a hard plastic line, you can use rubber hose that they sell on the reel by the foot. You just need to know what hole diameter you need. If you have a windshield washer line then borrow that and see if it fits. You don't need it to pass smog. :)

That's not what I was told by a smog place... I'm just worried I will fail over something dumb. This has been a ridiculous pain of a hose and what this part actually looks like and does.

I went to the junkyard during lunch, of course couldn't find jack. :shaking:

I was talking about the windshield sprayer hose when I said you didn't need it. You try to squeeze that on there to make it work. If not, then get a foot or two of new rubber line from the parts store of whatever diameter it is. If the ends are different sizes then get hose clamps or splice two different diameters with a fitting. I'm running errands in Sac all day tomorrow if you want me to stop by. Last one is the SPCA on Florin-Perkins about 5pm which is not that far from you.

What I would do is take the flapper off the rod inside that exhaust spacer.

Then hook up the valve again, with pretty new hose, and tell the smog place

you "fixed it". (Or take it to a different smog place?)

It will run 100% better without the flap blocking the exhaust.

(Side note: I cannot for the life of me recall what the technical name for that valve is...and I used to own/work in a NAPA)

Good luck!

Chris

THERMAL VACUUM SWITCH!!!! THATS what is called.

It's funny how something so small can cause such a dumb problem. I had the guys at the Napa by me going nuts trying to figure it out and even they were like wtf this hose is not listed on anything we have.

It's actually a hard steel pipe ,I will send it to you off my donor engine if you need it .A side note ,the vacuum valve would need to rotated clockwise 1 turn to line up correctly, not a smog issue though, just logistics.

All of the smog stuff is coming of my engine ,so if you need somethin ,let me know.

PM me ,I won't know if you post here.

Okay, so dumb question, is the whole thing a steel tube? Best I can tell it is for about 6" then it attaches to a plastic vacuum hose. I just bought a tube to stick on there for now. I am sick of dealing with this.

I really just want to know at this point what it actually looks like because I am just that curious. Oh and does it attach like the pictures in post 19? Thanks.
