What would cause your fuel gauge to stop working? No idea what happened, worked then suddenly didn't. The arrow just sits to the right, way passed the full mark. The rest of the gauges all work just fine. I tried messing with a few things and nothing seems to solve either issue.
On a side note, my instrument lights no longer work either. Not sure if this could be an attached issue?
Thanks.

Possible short in dash, sending lamp power to gauge.( wild guess )
Have you checked all fuses?

Fuses all were fine. The rest of the gauges like I said work fine. The only thing I noticed wrong with this gauges was the fact the are now not lit. I was going through the wires but gave up for today. What a rats nest of a mess. :homer:

my truck has dual tanks and sometimes when I switch over, the gas gauge will go way past full, but it usually just fixes itself by like the next startup. Is your tank full?

Usually, when the gauge pegs out, any of the electrical gauges for that matter, its because of an open in the circuit, meaning that either the wire connector came off, or the wire broke. Maybe internally where it can't be seen.

broken wire or bad sending unit

go check your ground coming off the tank, i thought when the guage reads way past full it is because the ground wire is not connected. Go look at your tank and find the ground wire and follow it and see if it is broken or came loose.

I'll check starting back at the tank, didn't think about it coming loose from that end. The tank (single, not dual) is probably 1/3 full at this point? I'll go top it off today. The wiring looks like a freaking rats nest so it's been stupid trying to fix anything like this because finding the wires that lead anywhere is a joke.

Thanks for your answer that was oh so helpful. :shaking:
it is easier with a wiring diagram that tells you the colour code of the wires you are looking for.
get a DVOM and start testing at the tank
it is an easy fix just time consuming
