: Redrill rotors?

I have a TJ Dana 44 with disc brakes from a grand cherokee. I upgraded to 33 spline shafts and want to run the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern. I want to keep the same style brakes due to the parking brake. I searched and found some people who drilled 8.8 rotors out to 5 on 5.5. After that I took my rotors out to 2 "custom" shops and neither one will do it. I asked for references and they both talked about how no shop will do it because it will weaken the metal, cause stress fractures and (1 shop said..)it will cause your rotor to explode into thousands of peices that will fly away from the vehicle faster than a bullet and destroy everything around, much like a grenade. :shaking:

Quick version...
1. Rear rotor is 5 on 4.5(internal parking brake)
2. I want to drill it out to 5 on 5.5(I want to keep internal parking brake)
3. Will it work?
4. Will it be safe?
5. If 3 or 4 is no, where do I buy the expensive ass rotors that will work?
Yes I searched, but could not find a definitive answer.

If the shaft flange with the 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern fits inside the hat diameter, I'd say go for it. I've been redrilling lincoln rotors (5 x 5) for my 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern for years now without a problem.

Yeah, it fits in there no problem. Gonna try and see what happens. Thanks.

I drilled my 8.8 out to 5 on 5 1/2 and have no problems. If it fits I would drill it.
