I know a little background is always nice but I don't type fast.

What I'm looking for is simple, unless you call a Toyota parts dept. (and no offense to anyone who works there).

What is the stock thread diameter and pitch for the tie-rod on an '84 straight axel toyota. I need to know so I can find a new tie-rod end (and the stock end won't work).

Thanks for your knowledge..

get a hold of marlin crawler, he knows them all by heart. most car manufacturers use really odd thread diameters and pitches so people like you and i don't try to make their own ends. taps and dies for these threads are few and far between; most have to be custom made and run between $150 and $300 a set of right and left hand thread units.;)

True, and this is also a good reason to convert everything over to SAE. However, those tie rod ends are standard metric thread pitches, which you can buy for about $50 a peice or so. I don't remeber what size it is, so I really can't help you, but I did many years ago buy a right hand thread tap for the Landcruiser rod ends and I think I paid somwhere around $40 bucks or so. It was metric ofcourse, but close to an 11/16"

I believe the '84 TRE is a 17 x1.5 mm. At some point in time ('85??) they changed to 21x1.5.

For pickups and 4 runners, they used 17mm up to 83, and in 84-85 they used 21mm.
