Alright, I already did a search so don't gimme any crap!:flipoff2:
I have an old 800 at my shop right now that the owner wanted me to throw a Waggy 44 under. It still has the manual steering and will continue to until he saves a couple bucks. So, for the time being, what pitman arms will replace the stocker with a little drop in it? I was hoping it would be a Scout II leftover, but not so. I saw in my search that possibly a Ford SuperDuty's might work? Better yet, does anyone happen to make a drop pitman arm for a man steered 800?

When I did the SOA and cross over steering on my 80, I couldn't find a compatable arm for the original steering box. I just used the box and arm from the wagoneer that the axles and springs came from.

just a thought, but have you guys tried a MANUAL Scout II arm??

they are smaller than the Scout II PS arm, maybe the same as the stock 800 arm.

Another thought might be early IH pu arms, they are a drop, and short. But usually have the tapered hole the "wrong" direction... could be fixed quite easily though.....

Right Hand Drive 800s have a dropped pitman arm.

Hey Mark:flipoff2:

What kind of rerasearch did you do? I have both side by side and the only diff is that the hole on the manual is approx 5/8 closer to the axle. Same forgings and all. So toss that :rainbow:
book on how to wheel and parts interchange away so ya dont spwew any more garbage.

well John, :flipoff2: at YOU.

my research, buddy of mine did a PS swap in a Scout II for a guy, got a box (over charged from a certain, un named source) with out a pitman arm, pulled the arm off the manual box wouldn't fit on the Power box. Called me looking for a Power box arm.

thats my research, been meaning to check it out for myself, but never have, more important things to do, like WHEEL.

as for :rainbow: research..... I'll tell him you said that.

:flipoff2:

as for the hole, what the hell you talking about??? If its closer to the axle, then that means the arm has more drop... not if its closer to the stearing shaft.... that might be nice info to know.....

Mark i also had a 74 scout with manual steering and the pitman arm would not fit on to a scout 2 powersteering box do to a smaller hole, maybe they changed them at some time. I had a 1980 scout 2 RHD with manual steering and the ptman arm looked the same as a Power arm.

I have a waggy 44 under my '70 and I'm running the stock pitman with a Ford Super Duty draglink. You can knock the ball insert out and run a reamer through the hole real quick and it'll get you by until you swap it over to P/S. The Superduty drag link has a slight bend in it so it'll clear the srprings and the stock springs don't move enough to create any noticable bumpsteer.

Thanks for the assistance, but I managed to talk the owner into doing a complete swap and save us both some time and him some money. I just wanted him to swap the tranny and t-case, but unfortunately, he's doing an entire chevy powertrain swap:( . It is nice to see them good ol' IH heavy metal motors chuggin' away.
